    3. I am constantly amazed at all the knowledge floating out there on this list about the history of Sangamon Co.and hope I can take advantage of some of it! My gr-gr-grandparents, Jeremiah KERIN and Elizabeth McCABE, moved to Ridgely in 1878 from Ohio. Jerry worked in the Rolling Mills for some time until they opened a general store. They lived on 8th St. and the store was at 1721 N. 8th St. There has always been a family rumor (not even enough to be called "lore"!) that Jerry was the mayor of Ridgely. I believe in the early part of the century Ridgely Village, as it was called in the 1900 census, was incorporated into Springfield. I have not had any luck finding out about this mayor idea or anything else about Ridgely and thought someone out there probably has a good idea! The Kerins had 9 surviving children, most of whom stayed in Springfield. Elizabeth died June 1924 and Jerry died in 1927.
