Hi Molly I was in Springfield Ill. a couiple years ago looking for marriage and land records. The marriage record did not give the bride and grooms parents names. Is there another record that gives parents names? HI Paul - Marriage records in IL prior to 1878 do not (as a norm) have parental information (unless one of the bridal party was under-aged, and the parental/guardian permission slip survived long enough to be microfilmed). After 1878 - the bridal couple were to complete a marriage Application - and in most IL counties (except Cook... they seem to have their own rules) - this application (or its equivelant, the marriage Return) still survive. Marriage applications/returns give parental info. For marriages prior to 1878 - - - family & parental info may be gleaned from Census findings (state, Federal) - or newspaper articles/mentions of the marriage (i.e., "took place in the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. (whoever), on (address) Street." Other parental/family info is often obtained from family members' death certificates (especially after 1916) - or obituaries (usually more "newsy" after 1870). Hope this helps? Let me know if I can be of any assistance, ok? molly Molly Kennedy P O Box 5785 Springfield, IL 62705 www.mollx.com Genealogy - Confusing the dead, and annoying the living. >From: "wiseowl" <[email protected]> >Reply-To: [email protected] >To: [email protected] >Subject: Re: [ILSANGAM-L] FERN E.
