    3. Years ago, my grandmother gave me a photograph of her grandfather, Henry Van Meter. The photo is of the "Field and Staff of the 114th Ill. Inf." during the Civil War. According to ILLINOIS AT VICKSBURG by Charles Koch, 1908, that infantry division was made up of men mostly from Sangamon, Cass and Menard counties. The photo was taken between 1863 and 1865. The others shown in the photo include the following: Lt. Col. John F. King, Adjutant O.H. Abel, Col. G. W. Judy, Q.M. G. W. Mourer, Major J. M. McLane and Asst. Surg. A. S. French. I may have misread some of the initials--the name of the unit and names of officers & staff are hand written in fancy lettering on the border of the photo. Are there any descendants of these officers on the list? V. Sheffler s066@fullnet.net
