    1. [ILSANGAM-L] Browns Cross Roads & Brown's Crossing
    2. I saw the mention of Browns Cross Roads in the posting below to ILSANGAM list. I've been wondering about "Browns Crossing" - could this be the same place? In a biographical article about one of my ancesters, it was stated that the family made their way to Sangamon County via "Browns Crossing". They came from Germany (probably to New Orleans), then to St. Louis, then to Morgan County and eventually to Sangamon County where they settled in and around Berlin. I've been trying to figure out for some time what exactly "Brown's Crossing" was - an immigration route, a town, a river, etc and how it fits into their travels to Sangamon County, Illinois. Thank you in advance for any information you might be able to provide. - Denise On Sat, 09 Dec 2000 09:31:30 -0600 becky tankersley <beckyt@fgi.net> writes: > I am searching for information on William Anderson, b. 1842 in > Ireland, > d. 1922 and buried in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in New Berlin, > IL. > He lived in Morgan County near the border with Sangamon county at > what > is called the Browns Cross Roads. > > His wife was Mary Ellen Courtney. 3. Judy, I did a search of Porters Grove at the USGS site at <http://geonames.usgs.gov/gnisform.html>. Nothing in Illinois. Even under Porter, IL. But, it did find a Porters Grove in TN. Are you sure your Porters Grove is in IL? Just a thought.
