I was looking at the funeral bill my grandfather had for his mother who passed away 5-1-1914 and noticed the address she was living at at the time. Is there any way I could find out who owned the house (mother said they had always rented) she lived in. Have been trying to find her maiden name and can't. My mother never knew either but felt she was related to Weisenmeyer and they may have been her landlord, and lived in the neighborhood but not sure. Also thought she was a Baer (don't know the spelling). Any suggestions how to proceed? Death certif. - nothing; obit - nothing. The 1900 census I looked at was so bad, I almost missed her and her son listed. Thought I could see some neighbor names that would mean something. WHAT NOW - HELP! MERRY XMAS TO EVERYONE AND SO MANY THAT HAVE HELPED ME ALONG THE WAY. Marilyn (Mick) - coolllddd Fla.
If you know your father's name, you might try going to the Illinois State Archives marriage database at http://www.sos.state.il.us/cgi-bin/archives/marriage.s enter his name as groom, and see if they were married in Illinois (even possibly in Sangamon county). As far as who owned the house, land deed records are generally kept by the local courthouse or IRAD. IRAD carries a deed index from 1823-1910; the deed records go from 1822-1902. This particular IRAD is the University of Illinois at Springfield, P.O. Box 19243, Springfield, IL 62794-9242.
