    3. In Illinois there are two programs which can help adoptees and their birth families. One is the Illinois Adoption Registry and Medical Information Exchange program managed by the Illinois Department of Public Health. Information on this program can be found on the web site www.idph.state.il.us. The second program is managed by the Midwest Adoption Center. It is called the Confidential Intermediary Service of Illinois. This program is explained on the site http://ci-illinois.org. If you want to get more background information on how to search in general you may want to read Missing Pieces: How to Find Birth Parents and Adopted Children by Paul Drake. Finally, more web sites devoted to adoption can be found on Cyndi's List which is at www.CyndisList.com/adoption.htm. Good luck on your search! wilsond212@aol.com wrote: This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Birth Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/xg.2ADI/2836 Message Board Post: I was born in Springfield IL on October 17, 1969. I was adopted 7 days later through family services in New London, Ralls County MO. I am told that I have 4 older brothers and sisters and that my biological dad was in the military and that he did not father my brothers and sisters. I am needing help with finding out any information as to who my biological parents are and any information on how to obtain records. I don't know what their names are. Is there anyone in Sagamon county that could possibly help me with finding records?

    1. Cemetery Mapping - New Technology
    2. Cheryl Rothwell
    3. This is truly the wave of the future. St. Michael's Cemetery<http://haasgis.cob.uwf.edu/website/cem/viewer.htm>, Pensacola, FL, has been mapped. [ http://haasgis.cob.uwf.edu/website/cem/viewer.htm ] Go to the web site. Zoom in far enough to see the name for each individual tombstone. Then click on pictures on the left side of the screen. Isn't this great? Don't you wish they had this for every cemetery? Go to the main St. Michael's Project <http://www.uwf.edu/gis/smc/index.cfm>web site [ http://www.uwf.edu/gis/smc/index.cfm ] to see what they did. They also did some wild things using technology on a satellite to determine where bodies were buried and the stone missing. Cheryl Rothwell

    3. Even though it seems cumbersome to post your reply on the message board, that truly is the best course to take. Then it is available to anyone now and in the future. It could save someone a lot of searching! 3. I can certainly understand your reasoning Guy and if you send it to the list as well it makes me happy because it is answered on the list. However, think about this. You are searching the archives. You find a post that is your very same question! Wow! Jackpot! But the answer is not in the archives. Bummer. This has happened to me. I know the question was answered off list. Some lists are set up to promote that for reasons totally incomprehensible to me. Grrrr! If it is from 2005 you might be able to email the people but if it was from 2000 the email addresses are most likely no longer any good. This may be an academic discussion though as Rootsweb is working on new software for both the lists and the boards and supposedly when it is in place there will be a universal search that WORKS across everything. Some of my lists have already seamlessly migrated to the new software. I was part of the beta testing on that. I haven't kept up with the status of the board software. Hopefully it will all be in place soon. And since we are the subject of searching...do not neglect to Google your ancestors. And don't stop with Google. Try the other search machines. They all work a bit differently and catch different things. I can't say I have found a great deal that way but I have found some useful information. You have to try everything. 3. When people post to the Sangamon message board it is forwarded ["gatewayed"] to this list. Most of the time the people who post to the message boards are not on the list. If you want to reply to the message board post so the poster can see it you have to go to the message board and do it. I will not comment on the wisdom of this system... Cheryl Rothwell

    3. Do you mean Oak Ridge Cemetery in Springfield? To my knowledge there is no Oak Hill in Springfield. There is an Oak Hill in Buckhart and one near Riverton. Lincoln Library in Springfield has an index of obits and one can obtain a copy from the newspaper. Not to be confused with the Presidential Lincoln Library.
