Surnames: Alsbur Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/xg.2ADI/1583.4.1 Message Board Post: I, too, am looking for records for Ann Alsbury and John Hodgerson. I see that they were married in 1840, in Sangamon County, Illinois. I will be gong there Thursday and Friday and I can see if there is a marriage license on file that might list the parents of Ann Alsbury. I have tried to locate the cemetery in Maxwell Township, close to the Waverly-New Berlin blacktop, but have been unable to find it. I do know that in order to buried in the Hodgerson cemetery you had to be directly related to the Hodgerson family, and I know that Charles and Jane are supposed to be buried close to John and Ann. I am trying to join Dar, so any info would be appreciated. I can share what I have.-Stephanie Wolfley-Mitchell

Or, is Jane Patton Huggins the oldest daughter born to Jane Huggins Alsbury? I am trying to find information out on Jane Huggins too, because I am descended from Ann Alsbury, the daughter of Charles and Jane Huggins, who married John Hodgerson. Do you have any more info linking Thomas SR. to Charles, or Charles to Ann? I am trying to get proof together to join DAR under Thomas Alsbury, Sr. as a drummer and scout. Do you have any info on Charles in the war of 1812 as a Lt. Colonel under Andrew Jackson as it says in Renner's book? I can share what info I have. Thanks,Stephanie

    2. The cemetery on the north bound lane of Rt. 4 is Bethel Cemetery and it is in Woodside Township. The cemetery on the south bound land of Rt. 4 is the Cloyd Cemetery and is in Curran Township. That cemetery had been taken care of in past years by a group from the Glenwood High School history class but apparently they no longer have the same teacher. We have the transcriptions of both cemeteries at the society office and will be having an open house this coming Saturday September 16 from 9 to 1 if you are in the area. Doubt if we have any left by the time of the Sesquicentennial Celebration Oct. 14-15, 2006. And we will not reprint unless the demand is great! 3. My copy of "150 Year Reminiscence Illiopolis 1856-2006" arrived the other day. I must have been gone and the mailperson left it on the front porch. Being a farm girl I almost never use the front door so it was there a couple days before I noticed it. The book is well done -- Mary Ann Kaylor always does a great job so this was not a surprise. It is done in a different manner than I am used to. The first 380 pages are history with some great pictures. It's clean and easy to read. Good thing because that is a lot of history, a lot more than you usually get. Names are everywhere but there is an excellent index to help you locate names you are looking for. Across the bottom of the first 108 pages is the Illiopolis timeline, a very interesting addition. The family histories make up the rest of the book. I don't know if there are any left or not. I ordered mine early on. Cheryl Rothwell

    1. Re: [ILSANGAM] Foreign Place Names
    2. Rose -- I don't blame you for being confused -- this is a VERY confusing subject! Germany did not exist as a separate country until 1871 -- prior to that time, it was simply a group of independent kingdoms, principalities, duchies, and city-states. Their boundaries and names shifted constantly as the political fortunes of their rulers waxed and waned. A good summary article on German history prior to 1871 can be found at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_Germany After you read this summary, I would suggest that you read separate articles on Prussia, Saxony, Württemberg, and other political entities that existed prior to the imperial period. In this way, you can get a general understanding of their geographical extent and the time frames in which they flourished. A good grasp of the complicated history of this region is essential to effective German research in the years prior to 1871. Guy I.
