    1. [ILSANGAM] Jack Waldo Dempsey (d. 1944)
    2. I am trying to discover the birthdate and birthplace of Ensign Jack Waldo Dempsey, USNR, who died at sea 16 Jan 1944 (missing in action in the Pacific theater). The NARA WWII online casualty index for Illinois shows his wife, Dorothy B. Dempsey, living at 1425 S. 5th in Springfield. Dorothy (my father's cousin) was born in 1923 and grew up in Springfield. Dorothy later remarried, and family members know little about her first husband, though they are under the impression that he was from Sangamon County. The 1920 and 1930 censuses show a number of boys named Jack Dempsey living in Illinois, but there is none in Sangamon County. How might I find out when and where Jack Dempsey was born? Guy I. Does anyone know if the Auburn Township Cemeteries book is in the Auburn Library. I tried to buy a copy of the Auburn Township Cemeteries book from the Sangamon County Genealogical Society but the book is out of print. I tried emailing some Sangamon/Macoupin contacts but either I didn't get through (I probably had wrong email addresses) or my contacts were tied up or out of town. I will be staying in the Virden/Girard area south of Auburn and could easily drive to Auburn if the burials book is at the town library. Thanks, Dwayne Wrightsman Lee, NH

    3. Not true. The LDS library in SLC does not have all the country records. They don't have any of some counties and for other counties they have from date X to date Y. But you don't have to go to SLC to get what you want. You can order up the films at your local FHC, much cheaper if all you want is a marriage record. Not that a trip to SLC is a bad idea. Plan ahead as Carole said. Did we already mention to check IRAD first? For Sangamon County that is an excellent option for many records. Cheryl Rothwell
