    2. Carole Hammond
    3. Cheryl, I thought of that, too....that the first page is simply missing but.....Alex Reeves is in the index. They had page one long enough to see his name. ;o) The link takes you to the other half of page one. I was hoping that the local genealogy society or library had the 1840 census. Is there somewhere that I can call or write to get a copy? Thanks for checking. Carole

It just so happens that my Alex Reeves, according to the index, is on page 1....but the page one that is shown is actually 1b which is a tally page. 1. [ILSANGAM] Ailsey Reeves Irwin
    2. Carole Hammond
    3. I have a Reeves girl who lived NW of Springfield, IL in Gardner Township. She married an Irwin some time before the 1850 census so her name doesn't show up with her living with her parents. I don't know her husband's name and I'm not really sure of her 1st name. Ailsey could be a nickname for Alice or even Elizabeth...like Elsie is. Ailsey was a daughter of Alexander Reeves and Effie Cummins of Gardner Twp in Sangamon Co. She was widowed or divorced by the time of her father's property was sold in 1864 and she was listed as Ailsey Irwin. She lived in Pleasant Plains, Sangamon Co. at that time. Ailsey no doubt had several Irwin children but I can't identify them. Unfortunately the 1860 census taker just used peoples' initials and not their full names. She may have named her children after her parents or any of her siblings' names....Bartlett, Susanna, Rebecca, Sarah, Maria, Nancy, or Maranda. Thanks, Carole

    2. Carole Hammond
    3. Around 29 Nov 1843 Bartley (Bartlett) Reeves died intestate so his father Alexander Reeves of Gardner Twp, Sangamon Co., IL was made the executor of his estate. Were there any death notices or obituaries for Bartley in newspapers in Springfield or towns in and around N.E. Sangamon Co., such as Athens or Petersburg in Menard Co.? Reeves has multiple spellings so anything even close counts. Thanks, Carole

    3. I have mentioned The Genealogy Guys podcasts. http://genealogyguys.com/ Now there is FamilyRoots Radio. http://www.familyrootsradio.com/index.html You can download the program or listen online. You do NOT have to own an iPod to listen. I don't. You can play them online, on your computer, your portable music player, etc. I copy them to my PDA and listen while I walk. I burn them to CDs for listening when I am in the car. A friend with an iPod listens on the subway on the way to work. Sometimes they are not subjects of major interest but I always learn something.
