Still looking for any info on these families in your area. Thanks, Ray
Hi all, I am looking for some guidance and suggestions on finding information on my great grandfather William A. GARDNER. He was born Oct-16-1830 in Kentucky and died Dec-3-1914 in Macoupin County, Illinois. He married Elizabeth WILSON who was born Apr-27-1832 in Kentucky and died Feb-18-1925 in Macoupin County, Illinois. They were married Dec-24-1851 in Kentucky. The first three of their children were born in Kentucky and the rest in Illinois, so they evidently moved to Illinois between 1856 and 1857 based on the birthdates of the children and the census data. I have no idea what county in Kentucky they originated from and it looks like Kentucky may have more counties than any state in the union! I believe that Elizabeth WILSON had family (Benjamin, a brother perhaps) in Hart County, Kentucky but can't even speculate on William GARDNER. I do have a photo of William with a Ben GARDNER who according to what my grandmother wrote on the photo was William's brother and a senator from Kentucky. I have checked with the US Senate and there has never been a Ben Gardner who served there, so perhaps he served as a state senator in Kentucky.? Would anyone out there have access to an index of the 1850 Kentucky census who would be willing to see if they can locate either William A. GARDNER and/or Elizabeth WILSON? Does such an index exist anywhere? Was there a state census taken in 1855? Is there a marriage index available to perhaps determine where in Kentucky they married? Thanks in advance for any and all help you might provide. Regards, Charlie _______________________________ Charles & Rebecca Neff cneff@mediaone.net Family History at: http://www.my-ged.com/neff/

RootsWeb.com will continue to be free to all users and will maintain its own unique URL at http://www.rootsweb.com. "This is truly a winning combination for both organizations and for the millions of users who make up our audiences," said Greg Ballard, CEO of MyFamily.com, Inc. The union will provide RootsWeb.com with the financial backing to expand and the business structure needed to focus on preserving, sharing, and exchanging family history records. As part of the MyFamily.com network of sites, the RootsWeb.com site will be able continue its tradition of free access to information with additional technology tools, increased family research content, and a greater range of genealogical resources. "RootsWeb.com fits well with the MyFamily.com vision of creating the largest and most active online resource for families and family history research," said Dr. Brian Leverich, founder of RootsWeb.com. "This agreement will expand the number of RootsWeb.com users and content contributors. At the same time, we have ensured that RootsWeb.com content, services, mailing lists, and Web pages will remain free, while allowing the site to provide more functionality and resources to a larger audience as a result of our being part of the MyFamily.com network." Ancestry.com, part of the MyFamily.com network, has a seventeen-year history of publishing award-winning books, magazines, and CDs, and currently offers more than 600 million records and over 2,500 databases. More than half of the data is freely accessible to all Web users. Ancestry.com also hosts, free of charge, the Ancestry World Tree and Online Family Tree software, which allow users to connect and collaborate with other researchers who are working on the same lines. Ancestry.com users retain ownership of their data, and the company pledges never to charge for access to that data or to publish it. For those who prefer to keep their information a little closer to home, sister site MyFamily.com allows users to create free, private sites that can be used to post family history data, share news and photos with family, chat online, and much more. RootsWeb.com is a valuable resource for family historians, with interactive guides, discussion lists, and numerous tools for tracing one's ancestry; it hosts more than 17,000 independently authored Web sites and about 19,000 mailing lists. All of these services will remain free to users. As part of its ongoing commitment to the genealogical community, MyFamily.com, Inc. will also continue to support RootsWeb.com-affiliated volunteer, non-profit organizations, such as The USGenWeb Project, Immigrant Ship Transcribers Guild, The Free Births, Marriages, and Deaths Projects, and other groups that provide free genealogical content. The MyFamily.com acquisition of RootsWeb.com promises to make it easier than ever for family historians everywhere to discover their heritage. His mother was Emma Emilia Margaret Hoffman but I don't know his father's name. Emma later married Edmund Lofberg and he adopted her son John. The family later lived in Adrian, Lenawee Co., MI and they all died there. I would like to share information with other people who are researching the McCulley surname.
You've all got to be one of the most helpful, responsive groups on the Internet! I hope to meet some of you at the SCGS meeting in Aug. Bill---The Illinois House pass a new Cemetery Bill and it is now in the Senate---this bill passed very fast in the House, but got bogged down in the Senate. This is an old law that is being revised and quite lengthy. It will be good for old or abandoned cemeteries, because it will have funding through the Illinois Comptrollers office in the form of a Cemetery Fund. If you would like to see the bill State of Illinois and go to the Senate bills and scroll to the Cemetery bill. You can see it in its present form. I personally know what it is to bring life to an old cemetery--I have worked with a newly formed Wimmer Cemetery Assn., Inc. in Auburn, Illinois for over a year. It takes a group effort and lots of research in restoration to get this job done. Talk to the county or township officals and see if they will help. Find other family members and have a reunion and met there with cleaning equipment and tools. I could go on and on........ IT CAN BE DONE!!!! Posted on: Sangamon County, Il Query Forum Board URL: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Il/Sangamon?read=1560 Surname: Lanham, Lindsay, Zeller ------------------------- Sangamon County is where Joshua P Lindsay lived in 1870. His wife was Permilia Lanhan who had brothers that were big land owners. A son had the name Cliton Rhodes Lindsay. I am trying to find the family. Where can I find wills for this county?
I visited some very old cemeteries around Cantrall this weekend and, after seeing weeds almost four feet high in Canterbury Cemetery and fallen trees and headstones in Cantrall Cemetery, I wanted to find out if anyone knew what would probably happen to these old cemeteries. Were the landowners expected to take better care of these cemeteries? Does Sangamon County have any regulations? And, what happens if/when Springfield grows to the point where a subdivision or strip mall goes in on these properties in the next 100 years? Bill Scroggin Chesterfield, Missouri
