Pat, Yes, Cass was a part of Sangamon when it was formed in 1821. Sangamon then incorporated several present day counties. Go to this web page on Sangamon Site: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilsangam/timeline.htm for a timeline for Sangamon and some info on Cass. He was born July 8, 1820 in Illinois. He lived and died in Cass Co. but I do not know where he was born or who his parents were. I know that Cass used to be Sangamon County. I found the 1830 census online but can not read it. Does anyone have a copy of it and could you check to see if if it shows any Andersons that may have a 10 year old son. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Posted on: Sangamon County, Il Query Forum Board URL: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Il/Sangamon?read=1585 Surname: Higgins, Hutchinson ------------------------- My Gr gr gr grandfather N B Higgins was deposited by aliens in Sangamon County, IL just in time to marry Henrietta Huchinson (who we believe was also on that alien craft)in 1836. Anyway, they resided in IL until sometime around 1843-45 when they moved westward to northern MO. On all census records we have been able to locate on this couple, the father ALWAYS refers to himself as N B Higgins. >From family stories that have been passed down to me...N B used to tell all his kids/grandkids that his name was really Napolian Bonaparte Bradley Sadley Dalton Higgins. In a famly bible he is refered to as Napolian and also as Bradley in other places. My great grandmother knew him as Bradley. His tombstone reads N B Higgins. From census records he "claims" to have been born in Indiana, and from his tombstone he would have been born 1816-1817 (numbers are extremely hard to read stating date of death and aged...yrs/mnths/days) Anyway...can anyone help me untangle this mess and perhaps tell me what planet he came from? :) I try to keep a sense of humor about this couple due to all the stories I have heard about them. Thanks in advance! CKeisker LDYCLN@aol.com

Can someone who has a copy of a Springfield City directory for 1870, 1880 and/or 1890, or a copy of the census for those years, tell me if there is a John Kizer listed. He'd have a wife named Catharine and at least one child named Charles. Maybe they lived on 11th Street! Then, the same for a Charles Brand, with wife Catherine and at least one child named Charles. It would help me solve a mystery and get me back on the right track. Your assistance would be appreciated. Thanks. p.s., you can contact me directly on my email address below. muchos gracias. Paul E. Jodi, I have checked the Sangamon County Genealogical Society's 1988 publication Divorce Index, Sangamon Co., Illinois 1825-1899 and find no mention of any GATTONs being divorced in the county. The data used for this book comes from the Divorce Index Volumes A-Z, 25A-26A, 46-54 (Accession 92/01 Circuit Court Record, 1821-1901); and Volumes 1-26 (Accession 178/01 Chancery Record 1869-1895), Sangamon County, Illinois, which are located at the Illinois Regional Archives Depository (IRAD), Brookens Library, University of Illinois at Springfield, Springfield, Illinois and are the original records. This book as well as others is listed in the Sangamon County Genealogical Society's publication list at the following site: Publications List, Sangamon County Genealogy Society hope this helps. Hi Patty: That is exactly what I am going through (and have been for awhile) with my mothers pictures - I use to 'chew' her out for not putting names/dates, etc. on them and of course some she remembered others she had no idea who they were. And now, she is gone (June 26) and the last of "our history" so to speak and no one to ask. But when you are young who thinks some day you'll be digging into all this and think to ask questions????? I have always put info. on the back of mine - thinking some day "when I am OLD" - I'll go through all of them and know who they are! Guess what - I'm old and haven't even looked at them for 20 yrs.! Can anyone direct an out-of-stater to where I'd find records for a divorce in Sangamon County in the 1895-99 time period? I'm looking for a divorce of Sylvester O. GATTON and Minnie J. SIMPSON. Minnie remarried to Thomas Jefferson ADAMS in Christian Cty. in June, 1899. Thanks! Jodi Reifsnyder Adrian hijodi@home.com
In the Springfield, Sangamon County area, I am searching for sources for the following: 1. Where would I look to see if a particular person died during the years 1865-1880? 2. Where would I look for the record of a divorce during this time? 3. Where would I look for the record of an adoption during this time? 4. Where would I look for a record of a person shooting another during this time? 5. Is there a John Kizer family in 1870, 1880, 1890? Census or City Directory? This particular Kizer family would have John, his wife Catharine and at least one child, named Charles who was born abt 1865. I'm not in Illinois so sources available at a library or over the internet would be good. In advance, thanks. Paul E. Brand peb803@aol.com
