1. [ILSANGAM-L] Searching STEINBOEMER
2. Hi all, I'm new at genealogy searching and could use some help or advice. I'm seeking any information on my g-g-grandfather, Arend W. STEINBOEMER. I've learned that he was born in East Friesland about 1850. His family may have owned a shipping business. I've seen his birth city named "Leer" and "Lehr, Hanover" but could use some advice on where that is or what that means. He came to Springfield, Illinois in 1869 and was a liquor dealer. He married Elizabeth Gertrude MILLER in 1875 and he died in Springfield in 1880. I have found and obtained copies of his obituary and marriage certificate. Any help or advice on where to go from here would be appreciated. Scott

1. [ILSANGAM-L] Re: CASS MARRIAGE IN SANGAMON??
2. Perhaps the bridal couple lived closer to the Sang. Co. courthouse than they did the Cass Co. one, which I believe was, at that time in Beardstown (it's now in Virginia, IL). My father, age 92, and I couldn't find his Cass Co. grandparent's marriage at that courthouse, and later, when doing other research in Petersburg, at the Menard Co. CH, we found it there. This confused/intrigued my father for he didn't understand it; then, while driving home, he said, "I remember now, that the courthouse would have been clear over in Beardstown, and so it would have been closer for them to come to Petersburg." Those old roads weren't good in the first place, I'm sure, so expedience was the answer. Or at least that's my suggestion for your inquiry.

1. [ILSANGAM-L] Cemetery Readings
2. Hi everybody---just wanted to let everyone know that the Sang. Co. Gen. Society will be at Sulphur Springs Cemetery, south of Loami, Illinois on Saturday morning. We are doing readings and inventorying of Sulphur Springs to update our files and make a new publication. We are out of this publication, so we feel this will be a perfect time to update. We welcome all to stop by and give a hand. We will meet at the square in Loami at 8:00 a.m. Bring water, snacks and a hat, because this is a pretty open cemetery and could be hot. There are trees to rest in so you could put in a lawn chair or blanket. There will be members from the Wimmer Cemetery project there who could tell you about there experience in restoration and give information on the "how to's" of starting a project like it. We plan to have a great time. Come for an hour or stay as long as you want. We will appreciate the help. E-mail me if you have questions. Hope to see you. 1. Re: [ILSANGAM-L] Buffalo Hart Cemetery and Ridgeways
2. Hello--Buffalo Hart Twp has 4 cemeteries--Buffalo Hart Twp, Cass, Constant, and Mathews (which I was told to be a pauper's cemetery). There is a publication by the Sangamon Co. Gen. Society--Click here-Publications List, Sangamon County Genealogy Society which lists Illiopolis Twp, Buffalo Hart Twp, and Lanesville Township. I checked in the index and there are 18 Ridgeway entries, 26 Cantrall, and 3 Owens. Most Ridgeway's were found in the Constant Cemetery which is still active. I talked with the Township supervisor just yesterday and he said that all cemeteries are in good shape in Buffalo Hart Twp. There was a poor farm cemetery in this area---no known lists are available. The area is flat ground with no known stones. Not surprising with these folks being poor. So it might be worth the money to look into this publication. Hope this helps you. 1. [ILSANGAM-L] Buffalo Hart Cemetery and Ridgeways
2. I am looking for directions (and information) on Buffalo Hart Cemetery, which appears to be east of Springfield and south of Highway 54 near the Sangamon/Logan county border. Is the cemetery still there, and how well maintained is it? Are there any other cemeteries nearby? I am looking for Ridgeways that may have been buried there. They lived in Buffalo Hart. I have found other family members buried in Carlyle Cemetery, but could find no mention of Ausburn or Jane or Edward Ridgeway in any transription of cemeteries for Sangamon County. However, I did have someone tell me that Ausburn Ridgeway had a large stone marking his grave. I would assume that his wife (Jane) would also be buried with him and, since his son Edward died before Ausburn did, then Edward would most likely be there also. The timeframe is around 1850 so the border between Sangamon and Logan counties would still have been changing. 2. Hi, With reference to the Christian Haug family I asked about. I talked with my great uncle Melvin Haug (who will be 90 soon) and asked some questions. In his comments he made a statement that he always heard that there were members of the family that were distressed that the name had be changed upon arriving in the USA (mid 1850s) he believes that it was originally HOUCK (which appears on one census). Please keep that in mind if you are keeping in mind my questions. Thanks Gwendy Baldwin
