Hi, my name is Jane Kolar and I am new to the Sangamon Co list and am researching Peacock, Cornman, Landes, & Scott or Porter. Information was only provided for my line of Peacocks-I have more. If you have any information that you'd like to share, I'd appreciate it. I would be happy to share what I have also. I am planning a research trip to Springfield for November. So far, I am planning to visit the courthouse (vital records), Lincoln Library, Sangamon Gen Society, and the IL Archives. If you have any advice or information on these places or could suggest better places to research, I would really appreciate it. I am mostly looking for vital records, obits and any newspaper archives that are available. Does anyone know if the Lincoln Library has local history books/resources or should I try a Springfield Public library (are they the same?)? Caleb Peacock Sr. (gggg grandfather) came to Sangamon Co in about 1840-50, from Hardy Co., VA/WV, along with his some of his family. Yes, I found a reference of their marriage in Sangamon county, but with a different spelling of his name. This was on the Illinois Marriage Index on-line at the Illinois State Archives website. It is as follows: MOFFETT, ADAM H MCATEE, JANE SANGAMON 04/19/1876 005/0096 4/19/1876 is the date, the other number is the license number. You may be able to get a marriage record from IRAD, or try the Sangamon County Clerk. The address is: Sangamon County Clerk, 200 S. 9th Street, Room 101-County Building, Springfield, IL 62701. Hello, Thought I would post my names again. My Batta relatives came to America in 1904. I believe they came straight to Springfield. Not sure yet. Don't know when the Beja's came to America. Can't seem to find anything on them. Anyone researching these surnames please contact me. I have been in contact with Batta's in Hungary. Found a relative there and she is sending me information. Found another person who, so far, is not related but lives in the same village and is willing to do some searching for me! How exciting. My Batta's are: Steve Batta and his wife Julianna Bor, their children were Susan, Julianna, Walter and Andy. My Beja's are: Stephen Beja and Julia Pudski, their children were Andrew and Julia. Have more info if anyone thinks that they might be linked to these people. Write for more details. Thanks for your time. Connie

Posted on: Sangamon County, Il Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Il/Sangamon/1706 Surname: Lolly, Lawley, Cripps, Ulrey, Bennett ------------------------- My great-grandmother was born a Cripps from Marion Co.,IL She married an Ulrey also from Marion Co. Then around the turn of the century vanished and was presumed dead. Years later she came back to visit family. She had three sons, who had been born in Arkansas and had been married to a Lawley/Lolly who died in Arkansas. She later married a Bennett who adopted the boys and finished her days in Iroquois Co., IL. I am trying to find the Lawley/Lolly family from which this man originated. The only info that I have is that he was a tall Irishman (well over 6ft.) and wore a long red beard, (These traits have continued on down through the generations). If you may know of any of this rather scandalous family history, please respond. Thank you , Brenda
Hi, I don't know if the book is still in print. It is public domain information now so anyone could publish it. However, the Sangamon County Genealogical Society sells an index that may be useful. For more information you should contact Dan Dixon ... Dbutton2@aol.com BTW the biographical sketches from the book are online at the Sangamon site.
