    3. Posted on: Sangamon County, Il Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Il/Sangamon/1793 Surname: DONNER ------------------------- In February 2000, the NSDAR accepted the service of George DONNER, Sr. as a Revolutionary War Patriot. George was the father of George & Jacob of Donner Party Fame. I have the obituary for George Sr. from the Sangamo Journel in 1844 but have never been able to locate his burial site nor that of his wife, Mary. My question is does anyone know the procedure to have a government headstone placed for a Revolutionary. I realize it would have to be a Cenotaph. Since many of the DONNER desendants are buried at Oak Hill in Springfiel I thought that would be a logical site. Any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. 3. A very valuable place to look is your local Family History Center. They have a lot of the information that the main Family History Library in Salt Lake has, and films can be rented from the main library if they are not at the FHC. The address http://www.familysearch.org will carry what information the main library has. After you get to the page, click on the Family History Library link, then click on Family History Catalog. From there you can do a "Place search". I just checked it, and it has several directories for this time period.
