Posted on: Sangamon County, Il Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Il/Sangamon/1851 Surname: McCoy ------------------------- Hello, I'm looking for information on my fathers side of the family....my biological grandfathers name was Dean McCoy. He married Lillian Farrar and had 3 sons, 2 daughters. I really don't know much about this side of my family and any information would be greatly appriciated. John may have been a distant relative of mine?? Thanks for any information you can provide.
Looking for a John Butler (March 20, 1811 to February 11, 1831) who may have lived in either Sangamon and/or Morgan County.
I saw the mention of Browns Cross Roads in the posting below to ILSANGAM list. I've been wondering about "Browns Crossing" - could this be the same place? In a biographical article about one of my ancesters, it was stated that the family made their way to Sangamon County via "Browns Crossing". They came from Germany (probably to New Orleans), then to St. Louis, then to Morgan County and eventually to Sangamon County where they settled in and around Berlin. I've been trying to figure out for some time what exactly "Brown's Crossing" was - an immigration route, a town, a river, etc and how it fits into their travels to Sangamon County, Illinois. Thank you in advance for any information you might be able to provide. - Denise On Sat, 09 Dec 2000 09:31:30 -0600 becky tankersley <beckyt@fgi.net> writes: > I am searching for information on William Anderson, b. 1842 in > Ireland, > d. 1922 and buried in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in New Berlin, > IL. > He lived in Morgan County near the border with Sangamon county at > what > is called the Browns Cross Roads. > > His wife was Mary Ellen Courtney. I am trying to find out more regarding my Billings and Crocker relatives. I have posted on Logan Co. site as I know a lot of the info is there, but know Sangamon is also involved. My paternal grandfather: Thomas Jefferson Billings was born 28 June 1850 supposedly in Pike Co. Listed in 1850 Pike Co. census; George Billings 47 born in KY ( don't know if he is related) Jane 46 born in KY Madaline 15 born in IL George W. 12 born in IL John 10 born in IL Thomas Billings 29 born in KY (my great-grandfather) Sarah 27 born in MO Minerva 7 born in IL John 5 born in IL Mag? 3 born in IL Thomas 2/12 born in IL (my grandfather) In same household with Thomas: Achilles Stanly 27 born in Il Louisa I?? 25 born in KY Mary E. 1 born in IL Thomas Billings whom we call Senior is buried in Fancy Creek Cemetery. This info was supplied to me by Eddie Dirks of Logan Co. and a photo was sent to me of the tombstone by Tom Little of Sangamon. Much of the info I have is from Logan Co., but apparently the Billings family was in various counties of IL. I don't know who George Billings listed above is, but would appear to be related. Billings listed in 1880 Logan Co. census include Thomas Jefferson Billings, (my grandfather), Henry Billings listed as a brother in same household. George Billings and family and James Billings and family are listed. I am assuming these were Thomas Jefferson Billings' brothers, as his obit listed George, James, Henry and a Charles as brothers preceding him in death. Also listed in 1880 Logan co. census is Francis Billings and wife Sarah, along with Margaret, 18, Charles, 13. Living with them was Annie Dorsett, 10, a g-dau, and James Dorsett, 8, a g-son. Living with Thomas Jefferson and his family were Fannie Dorsett, 15, a niece, and Charles Dorsett, 13, a nephew. I know that Fannie Dorsett was the daughter of Minerva Billings and Jasper Dorsett. Fannie Dorsett married William Fisher 1887. At the time of her marriage, the marriage license included names of bride and bridegroom parents, including mother's maiden names!! Any help or suggestions welcomed. Trying to trace the elder Thomas back to KY?? Lula Mae Billings Harrison Rt 2 Box 87 Howard, KS 67349 billy@terraworld.net
