Hellooo: Thanks alot! Yes I know the area, but had never heard of a church there. My folks lived out that way in Cottage Grove and before I moved down here (22 yrs), we lived in Chatham, and I worked in Spfld.on the by-pass then Iles Park Pl. so am very familiar with the cut-off - east and west! But then I wasn't into this 'FUN HOBBY' - you know, the relaxing kind - where you want to pull your hair out.......by the roots! Thanks for the listing, appreciate it. Marilyn - Fl. Do the files show Logan, Goetsch, or Brandt? mary d
Happy Holidays Robert: Been cleaning out files and saw this one I had saved - in case I ever got some free TIME before the end of the year. Are there any kind of dates when they appear and when the church terminated - or is it still there? I don't seem to remember hearing that name when I was living up there. I've heard lots of reference to Sugar Creek but not as a church. Also, were they the only Crowders listed? Thanks for letting me 'butt' in. Hi! This church (Salem Sugar Creek) was just south of Lake Springfield near the State Police headquarters turnoff then east a mile or so, to the old Stout neighborhood. It is no longer there, but I do have a copy of the records and a photo of the church. This chart will show the names of the Crowders that I have in my database. Some of them are in churches in the White County, Illinois area. The Springfield #1 church is the Springfield church which was organized in 1830, and later went into the missionary system and is now the Central Baptist church in downtown Springfield. The Springfield in Cotton Hill township is a church which was organized on the bank of Howell's Spring Branch, southeast of present day Springfield, possibly before Springfield became the center of activity - maybe as early as 1824. I have a deed on this church. Best wishes, Robert NAME CHURCH Association Birth/Death JOINED Crowder, Charlotte Mt. Pleasant, Burnt Prairie Skillet Fork 1830 Jul Crowder, Elizabeth Mt. If you know your father's name, you might try going to the Illinois State Archives marriage database at http://www.sos.state.il.us/cgi-bin/archives/marriage.s enter his name as groom, and see if they were married in Illinois (even possibly in Sangamon county). As far as who owned the house, land deed records are generally kept by the local courthouse or IRAD. IRAD carries a deed index from 1823-1910; the deed records go from 1822-1902. This particular IRAD is the University of Illinois at Springfield, P.O. Box 19243, Springfield, IL 62794-9242. Hello List, I am looking for information on William A. Ormsby. He was born 3 March 1874 in MO, d. 23 July 1920 in Sangmon Co, IL. He was married to Agnes Dyer in 3 May 1891 in Springfield. They lived in Athens and raised four children, Elmer, Fern (my grandmother), Alles, Florence. All are dead now. Agnes died in 1940, the children in the 70's and 80's. I am also looking for information on Charles A. Ormsby from MO who was married to Mary Burger (or Bunger, handwriting hard to decipher) also from MO. This information from Williams death certificate. There is no other information listed for them. They were William's parents. The following comes from the 1880 Census: IL, Sangamon, City of Springfield, E.D. 227, page 30 (192B) Madison Street 271/305 (Seeman family listed here, then:) Mary Ormsby f 37 OH NY MD housekeeper Artie f 15 IL NY OH daughter Effie f 9 IL NY OH daughter William m 7 IL NY OH son I believe this might be my William and my Mary, but would like to get information to confirm it. Any information on these folks would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Jacinda A. Gilliam

Posted on: Sangamon County, Il Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Il/Sangamon/1852 Surname: SHEEHAN, WALSH, MCCARDLE ------------------------- Jeremiah (Jerry) SHEEHAN married Hanorah WALSH in Bloomington, McLean Co., IL on Sept. 9, 1862. They had at least two sons, Matthew, who was living in Chicago in 1934, and Michael. Their son Michael SHEEHAN married Catherine McCARDLE, daughter of Thomas McCARDLE and Hannah BROWN in Bloomington on May 18, 1886. Michael and Catherine lived in Delavan, Tazewell Co., IL in 1893 when their son Matthew was born. They were listed in the 1900 federal census of Iroquois Co., IL with the following children: Mary, 11; Hanorah, 9; Matthew A., 7; Michael, 5; and twins James H. and Catherine, 2. A son Joseph may have been born after 1900. This family later lived in Litchfield, Montgomery Co., IL. Michael SHEEHAN died in Springfield, Sangamon Co., IL on July 22, 1934 at age 70. He was survived by sons, Matthew A. of Mattoon, Michael, Jr. of Springfield, James H. of Chicago and Joseph of Libertyville; and daughters, Mrs. Mary O'NEAL of Clinton, and Mrs. Eleanor KALER of Chicago. I would like to correspond with anyone else researching these families, especially any descendants. I'm seeking Jeremiah's origins in Ireland and also possibly connecting them with other SHEEHAN families in Morgan County, IL.
