Inez Breckenridge, daughter of C. C. Breckenridge and Lillian T. Cave, born 1869, died 1917, buried in South Fork buried in South Fork cemetery, Sangamon County. She was the wife of Charles F. Spicer who died in 1944. Is this cemetery still in existence? Is there anyone who would be willing to do an obituary lookup?

I have lots of Ramey info (and a little Perce) I am willing to share. I also have a Rachel Robbins (d 1802) from Wethersfield, Hartford, Connecticut, who married a John Stillman. The Stillman/Robbins line met the Perce (Meyer) line many years later in Bellingham, WA. Anyone out there with links or hints?

Posted on: Sangamon County, Il Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Il/Sangamon/1937 Surname: Cave, Breckenridge, Walker ------------------------- In an old newspaper clipping from May 29, 1906, telling about Johnson and Mary Thomas Cave's 60th wedding anniversary, the following descendant is mentioned: "It will be remembered that Mr. and Mrs. Cave on Jan. 14, 1906, filled and enjoyed the distinction second to none in the county or probably the state, that of being matron of honor and best man at their great-granddaughters marriage, now Mrs. Zella Spicer Walker of Rochester". Can anyone tell me if there are any descendants of this individual still living in the Sangamon County area? I suspect that she was a granddaughter of Cleophas and Lillian Cave Breckenridge.
Posted on: Sangamon County, Il Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Il/Sangamon/1936 Surname: Cave, Breckenridge, Walker ------------------------- My ancestor, Johnson Cave, came to Illinois in 1861 from Kentucky. In an old newspaper clipping from May 29, 1906, telling about his 60th wedding anniversary I found the following: "Here he followed agricultural pursuits in summer and the winter of 1863-64 founded what was known as the Old Kentucky school, about three miles southwest of Pawnee." Can anyone tell me anything about this "school"? How long was it in existence? Was it a church related school?, etc.
Thank you, Marilyn. I am acquainted with Clyde and Dena. FYI, Clyde passed away years ago. Ronnie passed away in 1999 but Dena is living. I have been trying to track down her current address from other relatives.
Carol: There use to be a family in Pawnee - Dena & Clyde (I think that is his name) with a son Ronnie Cave back in 1950-60's. When I was married, we ran around with them, but after my divorce in late 60's never saw them again. They were older than us so not sure if they are still living or not. But if someone has a Pawnee/Spfld. phone book they might be able to help you. Good luck Marilyn - Fla. Carol Jarmin wrote: > Hello! I'm returning to the list after several years absence. Hello! I'm returning to the list after several years absence. My ancestor, Johnson Cave, came from Kentucky to Pawnee, Illinois in 1861 and eventually settled in Custer, Illinois. Just yesterday I received a newspaper clipping that had been in the Illinois State Register, May 29, 1906, commemorating their 60th anniversary. The question I have is that in the writeup it states that Johnson Cave started what is known as The Old Kentucky the winter of 1863-64 founded what was known as the "Old Kentucky" school, about three miles southwest of Pawnee. Can anyone tell me anything about this "school". Also, the article had the following little bit of interesting information: It will be remembered that Mr. and Mrs. Cave on Jan. 14, 1906, filled and enjoyed the distinction second to none in the county or probably the state, that of being matron of honor and best man at their great-granddaughter's marriage, now Mrs. Zella Spicer Walker of Rochester. Are there any descendants of this lady in Sangamon County now? Thank you all for any help you can give.
W. O. Withrow was Co. Supt. of Schools in Sangamon Co., IL for many years, and has an elementary school in Springfield named in his honor. He died several years ago. He was a tall, well built gentleman with white hair, and when he'd visit the old one-room schools, he would tell us (this was in the 40's) that he was part Indian. I'mnot sure which tribe. The Office of Supt. of Schools, Sangamon Co. Building, Springfield, 62701 should have info on him; also the Sangamon River Collection at Lincoln Public Library in Springfield - attn: Ed Russo.

Posted on: Sangamon County, Il Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Il/Sangamon/1932 Surname: Withrow ------------------------- I've theorized that Joseph WITHROW, b.ca 1772 PA and d. 1830 Sangamon Co., IL, had siblings William, Isaac, John, Sarah, and Mary but have never found any proof. Have you found documentation? I've also theorized that Joseph had a brother John WITHROW, b. PA and d. 1833 Washington Co., KY. Again, no proof. I also don't know if the John who died in KY was the John who m. 1779 York Co., PA, though there is some circumstantial evidence suggesting this possibility.
I would.
