Go to this web site and scroll down to the "United States" link. There it will give you a page with the states. Choose the Illinois link and scroll down to Diocese of Springfield. Here is your information on contacting them and offices. They will also tell you if a certain parish is still in existence and where the records might be. Some of the Burns family had evidently lived in this area from very early times, for it was almost 50 years later that they organized the Buffalo Hart Grove Primitive Baptist church. For the sake of anyone who might be studying this, all of the members who organized this church, had been members of the Lake Fork PBC south of Mt. Pulaski, which dated back to 1827, and which evidently was one of the closest churches of the same faith to where they lived until they organized the church at Buffalo Hart. Per the 1874 Atlas of Sangamon County Buffalo Heart Township "This township is in the northern tier of townships, and the second from the eastern boundary of the County. The first settlement was made, in 1826, by Rob't Burns, A. B. Case, Jame Linn, Wm. P. Lawson and Rob't McDaniel. It is watered by two small streams. The face of the country is generally level. Fine deep, rich soil. Corn is grown in large quantities. Stock raising is extensively engaging the attention of the farmers. We cannot ascertain the date of the first school or the erection of the first schoolhouse or church. They are not behind other communities in this respect." Buffalo Hart is located in Sec. 20 of Buffalo Hart Township. On the plat map there are churches shown on Sec. 28 and Sec. 29 which would be South and SW of the community. If trying to locate on present day map, you probably won't find it, as it is merely a stop in the road. Find Buffalo on map and it was located north/north west about four or five miles. Hello Listers My limited research on my Burke and Likens lines has lead me to Buffalo Hart in Sanagamon County. Marriage records and census reports have identified Likens, Burkes, and Vandorens families of Buffalo Hart as being closely related. The Likens can also be shown as having been associated with the Hanks and Lincolns of Macon County, Illinois and Spencer County, Indiana. Kesiah Likens can be found in the records of the Little Pigeon Church, Spencer County, Ind. at the same time as the Thomas Lincoln family, and I believe she is the same Kesiah Likens in the 1870 Sagamon County census. My inquiry is, does anyone have information on these families as well as any information on the community of Buffalo Hart?
When I said we had only found 100 of the 400 churches, I meant, that we have found the records books of about 100 churches and there are another 300 churches whose records we have not found, for Illinois churches of this faith, alone. We have about 30,000 names entered into a database from the church records we do have. Robert ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! I can't add much, but I do know there was a Primitive Baptist church at Buffalo Hart, the same faith as the Little Pigeon church where the Hanks and Lincoln's were in southern Indiana. The Buffalo Hart Grove church was organized in May 1872, at a "union meeting house" probably in or near Buffalo Hart, but I don't know where it was exactly. There were nine charter members, John R., Robert E., William A., Lucy, Emily, and Patsy, of the Burns family, and James Elder, and Benjamin and Ellen Luckett. Elder John H. Myers was chosen as their first pastor. The church was still in existence near the turn of the century. I don't find Keziah Likans (Likens) in my database for Primitive Baptists in Illinois, but that is not conclusive, since we have only found about 100 of the 400 churches which have existed, and Buffalo Hart Grove church is not one of them. If anyone knows of a photo of the union meeting house at Buffalo Grove, I'm interested. South Fork Cemetery is still where it always was - in back of the Church. You might call Mr. Lesley Simpson, as Russell Simpson is now deceased. MaryT

Thank you, Marianne and Mary T., for responding to my query. I have the publication from the Sangamon Genealogical Society called the cemeteries of Cotton Hill Township. Both the Breckenridge and the South Fork cemeteries are listed. Inez Breckenridge Spicer is buried in the South Fork cemetery. I cannot locate Ida Breckenridge Simpson. Do you know if there are any descendants of these women in the Rochester, Breckenridge area? The publication indicated that a Russell Simpson, who stated he was a grandson of Cleophas Breckenridge, and was living in the house adjacent to the cemetery, gave the information about the Breckenridge cemetery. This was in 1979. Can you tell me if the Church is still adjacent to the South Fork cemetery? Somehow I got the impression that this cemetery had been moved when a dam was built. It is called South Fork Christian Church. A lot of there records were lost. I do not have the books on that cemetery. If someone does not get back to you let me know and I will check it out for you. There are several Breckenridge in Edinburg Cemetery which is about five miles away in Christian, CO. Marianne
Ida B. Breckenridge married John W. Simpson, 5 January 1899 in Sangamon County. She was the daughter of Cleophas C. Breckenridge and Lillian T. Cave. What is her birthdate? Death date? Where is she buried?
