    1. [ILSANGAM-L] John A. Hughes Died Sangamon Co 1875
    2. I am attempting to locate the burial place for John A. Hughes who apparently died in Springfield about  1875 according to the Guardianship papers I received from the archives.  I cannot get a death certificate for that long ago, and I tried to get an obit from the the Springfield library but the replied they didn't have one.  SO... I wrote to all the cemeteries listed under uswestdex.com for Springfield: Calvary Cemetery Camp Butler National (2 addresses) Oak Hill Oak Ridge Roselawn I sent each a stamped-self addressed envelope and they all replied, some with very caring letters, but all said they had no record of him.  I know where his wife was later buried (in Columbus, Ohio) and they also said he is NOT buried there. Anyone else have any suggestions? Any old cemeteries I might have missed in the Springfield area? Marilyn Oregon

    3. Marilyn, There was an old Springfield Cemetery...Hutchinson....which no longers exists. Bodies were removed to Oak Ridge in the time era of 1851-1875. I have my doubts if all bodies were moved. There is a listing published by the Sangamon Gen. Society called Springfield Township Cemeteries. Find their URL on the Sangamon page. I do see a HUGHS, John listed. Remember though these are not tombstone readings. They are from the ledger of the owner, John Hutchinson. All it has for John Hughs is: HUGHS, John got by James Hill, Lot 228 This could be your guy, maybe moved to Oak Ridge, wondered if they checked the variant spellings? 2. Bob Knotts
    3. Hi Faith. All I know abt Sylvia is that she m my g-grandfather WM in Nauvoo , Hancock co IL. in 1844, she was born in PA, her mother was b in PA, and her dad was b in NY. I contacted another WILSEY descendant, and she says her ancestor moved around a lot in the Hancock co IL. / and adjoining MO areas (I think).I think her ancestor was a John, and was born in Duchess co NY. I think most of "my" WILSEYs came from "New Yawk". Christian co and Sangamon co were together at one time, I believe. I'll have to look that up. I have a program that shows the different cos for different years. I think Joseph , my g-grandfather's "Little" brother, b QA co MD 1812, had abt 6 children, one of whom moved to KS. Bob KNOTTS

    2. Faith Keahey
    3. I just looked for the three counties as there were Wilseys in just about every IL Co on the CD. I don't know my IL counties well enough to know who neighbors whom. The 1860 only had Nancy and Peter in Appanoose Twp., Hancock Co. p 578. Most with this surname seemed to be Pike, Kendall & LaSalle Counties. I also checked 1850 & 1840, found none. As long as I was in the CDs for Knotts I found in 1840 Sangamon Alvin & Ellen p. 058 both heads of household in Sangamon Co. 1850 had Albrin 148, Joseph 109 & Thomas 148. I couldn't locate any in Hancock or Christian. Hope this helps, but would have been better if I had the first name of Sylvia's father, but suppose that's what you were looking for! 1. [ILSANGAM-L] 1860 Sangamon Census
    2. Can anyone give me some pointers about the 1860 Sangamon Co.Census? I was looking at the census today and became so frustrated trying to stay with the city of Springfield. Some pages were labeled Subdivision 17, post office Springfield and the very next page might have a different post office name entered. Also found District 16 with Springfield, Sherman, Dawson, etc. I am looking for the name Tierney in the City of Springfield. Any help for saving my eyesight would be most grateful. Is the 1870 census like the 1860? Thanks for any help that might be offered. RK

    3. You need to check an index first! I went on-line to Ancestry.com, and found the following TIERNEY possibilities: 1860 Sangamon, Illinois Census: 1. B.M. Tierney, p. 144, Springfield 2. Kate Tierney, p. 141, Springfield The page number is the actual page of the census (either "A" or "B") that the entry shows. Check these pages, and you will find the entries. 2. Jacob Moomey born May 19, 1840 died in Mount Pulaski on January 5, 1917 and was buried in the Mechanicsburg Cemetary. I would greatly appreciate it if someone would check and see if there was an obituary announcement in the paper. I would also like to know if there is a headstone and if there is, would someone be kind enough to take a picture for me. I will reimburse for the picture and the postage to mail it to me. In 1882 his first wife, Mary Stockton died. Would someone please check and see if she is buried in the same cemetery and also take a picture of her headstone if buried in same cemetery. I would greatly appreciate any assistance. Avie
