1. Mortarville Cemetery
2. Lisa Kimmel
3. Does anyone know of a cemetery in Rochester, Illinois called Mortarville? I have several family members buried there, but until I did some digging at the library to find out where they were buried, I had never even heard of it. Thanks

1. Experiences with Certs..Long
2. Sue Williams
3. To Mary Ann (who knows all of this [grin]) and others who may not. Yes, everything that you've stated has been my experience too. I too go to the courthouses. Just used to giving info out online to descendents who live too far away to go. Christian Co, has computerized their records. All the info is no longer included, unless you ask for the original. Many people do not know this. My mother, in her seventies, had never seen her BC, I found the Health Dept. in Detroit, Michigan, she sent for the cert. and called to tell me that, "Michigan records are different" She had received a "certified" computerized copy. So much was left out. I'm not sure that Michigan recognizes the "public record" idea. It's difficult for anyone to order copies of any certificates other the namee. It as much as says so on it's website. Incidentally, if you're after a B.C, you can get around the law years by producing a death Cert. All that being said, the records are still only secondary documentation. Esp. death certs. you have to reply on the informant, who may or may not have know what he/she was "taking about". ( it happens, alot) I once re'd a cert c.1920 that was typed -written. I needed to replace that years later and I re'd a cert. that was computerized. I found another researcher who had the same cert. and his was hand-written! Now, that's alot of room for human error. In my early searching years, I told the IL Health Dept. that alot of the info on a particular cert. was incorrect and that I could more than verify it. She did not want to hear about. I forget all her instructions for my having it changed, but it was time-consuming and expensive. So, I did not bother. I would hope that this policy has been changed. Just some of my experiences with certs. 3. Early marriage records at any courthouse are not "private" and one should be able to obtain a copy of the original papers, certified or non-certified. Even if one must go to the courthouse and insist, which one must do at times to obtain copies. I've been to Christian and had a problem with getting a death record, too, but it was still in the privacy law years, so I understood. But the gal was good enough to give me the information on it, if I asked her certain questions (which she told me to ask :-). Now the record is on line on the IL State Archives, figure that! I do know that another County in IL will only send the information and not the copy. I obtained a person close to the courthouse and they went and got me the actual copy. 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/xg.2ADI/2508 Message Board Post: If you ever wanted a picture of any of the schools your ancestors attended, this may be your chance. I just added a page of over 2,000 images of various schools from all over the U.S. The page is hosted by www.family-images.com at WWW.Family-Images.Com and just click on the Miscellaneous Schools Page. Please note that there is no real order to the listing so you will have to use the "Search and Find" Options of your browser or just plain or browse the listings to find schools of interest to you. I am looking for some volunteers to rename the images so I can better organize them but I have so many images to get online, I can't take the time to rename them all myself. I figure it is better to get the images online where people can find them. If you have something not listed or a better or different view of a school or anything else, feel free to share it with our visitors. I have tens of thousands of images to get online but am always happy to add anything you think the visitors might like. I have over 1,000 church images to add if I can ever get to scanning them all. I would also like some feedback on what genealogists want images of. For instance, what images would you like to add to your family history scrapbook? I assume anything relating to your ancestors, and the towns they lived in, but would you want to have an image of the school or church they attended? Are you looking for pictures of where they were employed, where they may have spent days off with the family like amusement parks, lakes, etc.? Do you want to see images of towns or buildings after disasters, etc. to see what the people had to overcome to get on with their lives? What kind of images are important to your family history scrapbooks? Maybe I will make up a poll and post it on the site to collect your responses. Please visit this collection and I hope you find something of interest. Feel free to spread this link around. Mike

3. HI Bob - and all - Let me check her death certificate tomorrow (Fri) - or Sat at the latest - at the IL State Archives - to see what cemetery she was interred, according to her death cert - (it should also give the date of interment, and the name of the funeral director/funeral home/undertaker) - HARBAUR MARY A 0047304 1918-10-14 SANGAMON WOODSIDE TWP 18-10-15 With the Woodside twp death, she may well be buried in one of the Woodside-area cemeteries, instead of Oak Ridge. Oak Ridge still has most of their records in paper-form (not completely computerized) - but they DO have a 5-way cross-reference index-card catalog; by (1) plot-purchaser; (2) name of deceased; (3) chronological interments; (4) responsibility/payments for care of the plot; and (5) i can't remember right now... so if Oak Ridge can't find her - then the obit was probably wrong. I'll check, and email you offlist with the results of the death cert info. I usually do this for a small fee, but you've been supportive of me in the past - so this will be a form of Thank you! molly Molly Kennedy P O Box 5785 Springfield, IL 62705 www.mollx.com "Genealogy - the art of confusing the dead, and annoying the living." >From: "mrlucky" <[email protected]> >Reply-To: [email protected] >To: [email protected] >Subject: Re: [ILSANGAM-L] Cem. 3. es, I am looking for my g-grandmother, Mary J. Harbour, nee Ridgeway. She died on 14 Oct.,1918, in Springfield,IL. Obit. states that interment was to be in Oak Ridge Cemetery. I have been to that cemetery and they say they dont have her. Her husband, Joseph Harbour, died in 1960 and is intered in Campbell Ce. in Loami, Sangamon,IL.. Any help you can give in discovering where she is buried will be greatly appreciated. 1. Index of Calvary Cemetery
2. Kathy Minder
3. I'm looking for death dates for George John aka John G. Minder and his wife Barbara Miller Minder. They are buried in Calvary Cemetery with her family the Millers. I've been there but for some reason (quite unknown to me...) I can't find the data. I would like to know who is buried around them, I believe Sebastian and Caroline Andree Minder are buried close to them. Thanks, Kathy Walters Minder
