This is funny................... Scott is the distant cousin that I was talking about. Here is some of the information that Scott gave me some time ago. It is Mahala and David that tie Scott and I together. Elias married Sally Prater 26 Aug, 1830 in Union Co, IN., Elias and Sally Cruzan had two children; Mahala [b] 1841 and William [b] 1842. Elias Cruzan's wife Sally dies and Elias remarries Elizabeth Rhea [b] 1825 on 12/31/1848 in Sangamon County, Illinois. Elias and Elizabeth had six children; Garrett [b] 1849, David Logan, Lavina, Margaret, R.J., and E. Cruzan. Mr. Cruzan moved his family to Sangamon County, Illinois sometime in the mid to late 1840's. ONe of the ththings. I noticed that you had tracked Michael to Williams Twp. Most of my Moyer family had also left Gardner Twp. and moved to Williams Twp. The for the most part are all buried just west of Williamsville, Illinois in the Walnut Hill Cemetery. I do not have a listing on that cemetery but maybe somebody else on the list may. Carole Hammond wrote: > Frank, > > Thank you so much! Ha! This ~is~ funny. I never thought to ask Scott where he lives. I'm in Portland... well Gresham....in Oregon. I never asked him if he is on this list. He contacted me thought the Vance list....I think. I'll see if I can scare anything up on the Walnut Hill Cemetery. Thanks so much, Frank! Frank, Thank you so much! I'm working on this with Scott Black and I've forwarded your message on to him. Carole, Mary Elizabeth was the step-mother to my gr-gr-grandmother Mahala (Cruzan) Moyer. You described me in the first paragraph. I have a Mary Jane Goings who married a Charles Gilpin, then married OS Campbell, then mrried a John Jennings. At one time I was corresponding with a person who researched Miller, and there seemed to be some connection between this Miller and Campbell. I'll search my notes tonight and get back to you. Anyway I have a pic -- must have been taken by a traveling photographer...shows the front of a large farmhouse with several people and horse in front. My grandmother has labled this pic as "Springfield Illinois". Mary Jane Goings is identified as Mary Jane Campbell A young woman is identified as Pearl Campbell. (I've never been able to find a Pearl in census) There are couple of other people - one is identified as farm hand. Mary Jane married Campbell in1886 and then married Jennings in about 1900. So I guess the pic was taken about 1886 - 96. I can share this ppic - I've always wondered if this house still exists. It might be easy to identify if it did exist. I know nothing about the OS (or OX) Campbell,,do you? Can share. I'm afraid I'm not going to find what I'm looking for, but maybe someone can help me out. In 1919, in Logan Co, my grandparents and my Mom (now 89) contracted the awful flu that killed so many. An African American family came to their aid and took over the farm work, cooking, everything, including helping to nurse my family back to health. Their last name was Bruner and I find them on the 1920 Logan Co census. The father was John L; the wife Anna May and they had 2 daughters - Lilly May and Ollie. By 1930 they had moved to Sangamon Co and lived between Rochester and Springfield. My grandparents moved to Rochester; and later my parents. In 1949, my grandmother died (Pyle) and one of the two daughters came and stayed with me as a young girl with the measles. I would dearly love to find out if any descendants are still living in the area. I believe Ollie married (she born ca 1904) but I don't have access to any marriage records for that time. I don't know what happened to Lilly; I can't find her on a 1930 census in Sangamon Co so she was either married or deceased (she born 1902). I just wanted to make contact if they left children and say thank you for all they did for my grandparents (deceased), my Mom and me. If anyone has any ideas, I would sincerely appreciate the help as a non African American who owes them a debt of gratitude. Sandi
