    3. Thank you for taking the time from your busy schedule to share these thoughts. As I track back some of the female tracks I find the names Karnes, Karns, Carns and Tate. I found some interesting information on the web about the the grandparents of Celia Atway Karnes, wife of Nathan Reeder, and family in Saline Co., Illinios, it is as follows; 2. Church Records: Bethel Creek Primitive Baptist Church, located between Raleigh and Galatia [Saline co.] was organized in 1820. The cemetery has many Karnes family members buried there. Deeds located a Karnes family farm next to the Bethel Creek church. The following minutes are courtest of Mary Anderson of Ridgeway, Ill.: 1821 - June meeting - received by letter Brother Jacob Karnes and Anna Karnes. 1821 - Aug. meeting - Jacob Karnes asked for letters of dismission for himself and wife. Granted. 1822 - Feb meeting - Brother Jacob Karnes and wife petitioned for letter of dismission which was granted. 1824 - Feb. meeting - Br. Jacob Karnes applied for letter of dismission for himself and wife, given. 1826 - Aug. meeting - Brothers Karnes applied for self and sister Ann, letters of dismission. Ordered clerk to write letter. 1827 - Aug. term - James Karnes received by experience. 1828 - May - James Karnes dismissed. 1831 - Aug. 20 - Received by letter Brother Jacob Karnes and his wife Anna by letter from Tennessee, Dickson County [This explains the absence of Jacob on 1830 census of Gallation Co.] 1847 - Oct. Term - Sister Anna Karnes requested a letter of dismission - request granted. 3. Census Records: Index [1810-1840] 1810 Gallation co. census - no Karnes/Carns noted 1820 Gallation co. census - John Karnes; Jacob Carnes 1830 Gallation co. census - John Carns 1840 Gallation co. census - Amos Carnes; George Karnes; John Karnes; Isaac Karnes; John Carnes" Can you help me understand what the "letter of dismissions" would imply? What was likely to be going on? The Karnes family came from Hawkins County, TN. and because of the Stoney Creek Primitive Baptist Church in Hawkins Co, they may have been assoicated with that church. As you can guess, I will spend my fall trip looking for more information on the parents of Nathan Reeder's wife, Celia Atway Karnes. All is well in the flat lands, maybe we're just in the palm of his hand.
