My great aunt was a Karnes - her father was Robert Jefferson Karnes born 1857 and married to Amanda Lowe. Robert Jefferson Karnes parents were - George W. Karnes and Mary Ann Gasaway. This family was in the Raleigh area but would not be surprised if they were related to the Karnes in Galatia. My father's family has been in Saline Co. since the 1820's and I have done much research on them and in the area. The libraries in Eldorado and Harrisburg have always been helpful. I love the Genealogy Societies library and it is opened most mornings and it is EXCELLENT. The people at the courthouse have always been helpful too. When I go to southern Illinois I always go to the Genealogy Society in the morning and then to the other places in the afternoon.
