Hi Donna, This is the information I have. Mary E. RICE is on the 1880 census for Johnson County, Goreville township married to Isic Countz. Her age is listed as 25, her oldest son, Martin (James Martin) was eight. Isic was 40. The census recorder had a time with the numbers "2" and "3", but comparing them to other numbers on the page, it is definitely a 25. The cemetery that she is buried in is Friendship Cemetery, near Goreville, Johnson County. The death certificate indicates she was born in Union County. There is no marker for her. There's a field stone near the marker of her son and it is probably hers but no way to prove it. DOD November 29, 1880, age given 35. Duration of illness was six months, so she was sick when the census was taken. The 1880 census was taken on June 24. Age 35 would make her closer to Isaac's age, but we know women married early in those days so she could have been 25. Or, she may have been 35 at the time of death, married at 27 and Isaac was her second husband. The Union County Courthouse, the Johnson County Courthouse and census reports have been researched by one of my cousins, but no luck. I cannot find her on any census earlier than the 1880 census. Maybe she was an orphan and took the name of her adoptive parents. Sure is a brick wall. Thanks for any help or direction.
