Does anyone know where I would go to search for an old obituary for someone? It would be a long search, since we're not really sure when he died. His name was Joseph L. Smith, married to Mary Belle Vaughn. This is my father's grandfather and no one seems to know much about him. He was born in 1855 in KY (she was born in KY also) but they came to Gallatin County, where they had my grandfather, Benjamin Franklin Vaughn in 1886. Pop's whole family is from the Harrisburg area, though. We figure he probably died in the 1920s, but no one seems to know for sure. Any clues on how we would go about this? Anyone have a 1920 census? The library in Harrisburg has microfilm of their old newspapers. I've found death notices, etc. in the files, but I don't know anyone in Saline Co. who does research. The info is not online. You might try contacting the Saline Co. Gen. Soc. to see if anyone there would do the research for you. The Gen. Soc. also has funeral home and cemetery books for Saline Co. (and others, as well). If you think its possible that he was buried in Gallatin Co., the cemetery books by John Miner are online at www.homepages.rootsweb.com/~davidca/Gall-cem/cem.htm .
