    1. Re: [ILSALINE-L] Look-ups for Edmund Vinson
    2. Phyllis I found a bit of information that may be a help. Here goes. In the 1860 census (they aren't on line) I found Sarah Vinson age 55 b. TN. and her son Thomas B. age 18 b. IL. Apparently Edmund had died between 1850 1nd 1860. I could not find a grave site for him. In 1860 Ransom and Mary Moore still lived next to them and had 5 children. Mary Vincent and Ransom Moore were married on Sept. 2, 1847 in Gallatin Co., IL (Gallatin County Marriages 1830-1858). They are buried in the Moore-Vinson Cemetery. Ransom Moore 2 Dec 1822 - 29 Aug 1877 Mary, his wife 4 Aug 1828 - 2 Jan 1883 on the same lot are 12 other Moore's and a McMeins, Vinson and two stones with just initals. I also found this, which I thought would be helpful. This from the book The History of Saline County 1847-1997 page 170. Mountain township churches As people came into the township many of them were God fearing Christians and were soon worshipping in someone's home. This is how most churches started in the early 1800's. As these small groups became more organized and some of the groups merged together, they began to think about organizing a church with a place to meet and worship with a pastor. It seems that with the settlement growing around Eagle at about 1812-13 to 1837 there is a missing church link. Just by looking at the family names in the community and taking in account their accomplishments, it seems correct to assume they would have had a church, the question is where since the first documented church in Mountain Township was the Eagle Creek Emancipation Baptist Church, which was most likely organized in the fall of 1837 in association with the Saline Association of Baptized Churches of Christ, Friend to Humanity. This association had been formed in 1833 at Liberty. Their doctrine was anti-slavery as can be seen in the name. The church was located in the southwest corner of what is now the Jones cemetery. In 1843 the church had 22 members. The following year lists 24 members with Elder E. Vinson listed as Pastor. The next Friends to Humanity Church in the township was Big Saline. This church was organized in 1844. Elder Edmund Vinson, who was mentioned above was listed as pastor. There were 23 members. This old church was near the settlement of Somerset. I hope this helps Pat Patricia Mitchell Joliet, IL Researching: HUTSON/PYLE/EDWARDS/NUNN/PICKERING/SISK/MILLER/MITCHELL and others too numerous to mention
