There's still a couple of log cabins left at Derby. It was on the old road from the saltworks south through Horseshoe Gap, down past Anvil Rock, and finally onto the Rosiclare and Elizabethtown area of Hardin County. At one time this road was known as McFarland's Road. James McFarland ran the ferry at one point and built a tavern and inn that is now the Rose Hotel State Historic Site and is operated as bed and breakfast inn in Elizabethtown. Today, Derby is at a dead end road. It abuts to the south the Garden of the Gods Wilderness Area. If you kept walking south past Derby you would end up in the parking lot of the Garden of the Gods Recreation Area.
