Looking for information on Inez M. Wiggins b: 1897 in Eldorado. She is thought to have married Lindolph O. Trigg b: 1879 d: 1949 and then married and unknown Overturf. Does anyone have information on this child of Ben Wiggins and Sarah Clara Smith. Thanks, Jane
I've recently done some research on the old log New Harmony Church, and the role of Colonel Levi Williams, and the Militia Under His Command, in the Expulsion of the Mormons from Hancock County, Illinois, in 1845 and 1846. The Old Carthage Jail where matters came to a head in 1844, is located just two blocks from my office/library, so I have included a digital photo of the old jail in my article. This article may be seen by going to the following website and clicking on the link at the top of our home page: http://www.carthage.lib.il.us/community/churches/primbap/pbl.html After nearly a year of careful study, I've finished the above article, but I still welcome questions, comments, corrections, or additional information, to help me improve it. The article includes the names of over 400 men who composed several companies of the Illinois Militia in western Hancock County. I would like to learn more about the men in these militia companies. Included with the article are extensive reference lists, showing the material I used in writing the article, which I hope might be helpful to others, even if they do not agree with me. Jane - I don't know if this helps any or not, but in the 1880 Census, Richard and Alcy C. are living in Raleigh. Three of their children from that Census - Drucilla, Edward, and Cora - list their mother's maiden name as LAMPKINS when they marry. Alcy and Richard are buried together at the Raleigh Masonic Cemetery .From the info on the headstone she was born 22 Feb 1837 and died 20 June 1883. Census info says she was born in TN. Julia RHINE DeJARNETT SMITH is buried as Julia DeJARNETT with her first husband, John B. DeJARNETT at the Rhine Cemetery in Long Branch Twp. I can find no record of the marriage for Richard and Alcy either. http://www.cityofharrisburgillinois.com/businessprospects.htm The City of Harrisburg is extremely fortunate in that they own 2 side channel reservoirs, each with approximate surface area of 40 acres, located in the Northeast quadrant of the City of Harrisburg. These side channel reservoirs were built as side channel reservoirs in the 1940's by Central Illinois Public Service Co. which operated the water distribution system. The side channel reservoirs previously were used to pump water from the river into those reservoirs prior to treatment and distribution to the residents of Harrisburg. Please correct me if I am wrong - but I believe David Macklin Upchurch, son of Thomas L. and Mary Polly Davis was born in 1846. David Macklin Upchurch, son of John and Catherine Upchurch was born in 1822, so I think he is the one in question. The Upchurch family was very fond of the name David making research a challenge, which I know is a challenge in many, many families. Can anyone trace the ownership of this piece of land from 1815-1950 aprx NE 1/4 SW 1/4 Sec 16 T9S R7E This is the Rice Cemetery. I had originally thought that it was Baker land, but I find that it wasn't. Is it possible to follow a deed back from present if it has not been registered with the county ? ie Can it be signed off and just presented to the new owner, sorta like a car title (sometimes snicker), ie possession makes you the owner ? I have 2 photos (Taken by Becky Schmook 1985 - THANK YOU !!!!!! ) one of Edmond Baker jnr & one of his son Benjamin F Baker (m Martha J Martin in 1874, he d 1876 ANY CHILDREN ????) I did not see these stones there when I came to the conference at SIU. I DID notice a pile of what I thought was stone in a corner tho, but was unable to investigate. Hindsight, it looked like a pile of smashed tombstones that had been thrown in a pile. Can anyone check in that ??? I was once told that the first burial there was a negro. Does anyone know for certain and aprx what time period ? I believe that it would have been a PUMPHREY, as Edmund was appointed a conservator for the children about 1838 or so (Gallatin Co). It is possible that Sarah Ann Johnson Baker w/o Edmund Jr may also be in Rice Cemetery, possibly on the same stone with Edmund. It is possible that Edmund Baker Snr d 1852 & m2 Elizabeth Unknown d 1855 may akso be there. William s/o E & m2 E d 1847 ANY other thought are appreciated. Has anyone else found anything on anybody lately ?? It's been QUIET. VERY QUIET out here the last few months. I had to go to Hamilton and read their stuff ! lol Web site seems to have had virtually no activity in the last couple of years. I know that Jon is a very busy fellow, perhaps someone that knows what they are doing could volunteer to help him with it ? This is nothing against him as he has done a remarkable job and is a very interesting writer. I don't know enough about web sites to do any of it myself, but would be happy to transpose data or what ever else I could do. We could add census's to the sight maybe. HOW about trying to reconstruct the 1890 census for Saline Co ???? That would be really awesome and would probably help alot of people. How about Obits from the early newspapers ? And I DON'T mean just the ones that 'concern' your tree. How about one or two above & below or something. Just some rambling thots, hope they help ! David Macklin Upchurch, 1822-1888, buried in Bethel Creek Primitive Baptist Cemetery in Saline County. His parents were John Upchurch and Catherine Johnson. His brother Joseph B. Upchurch was my gg grandfather. I have lots of info on this family. Also - on the Karnes line- Mary Ellen Karnes, daughter of David C. Karnes and Mary C. Kittinger was the second wife of my great-grandfather Charles Clifford Harris. They married in 1914 in Harrisburg. I have a little bit of info on her family if anyone is interested.
