Hey no problem guy ! I look at most of my roots as kind of a joke really. MOST of them took it with them. One of them rode his horse through the courthouse. One of them was charged with disturbing the peace IN CHURCH !! AND I think they were related to a Rev War vet that was whipped for Mutiny and one that was charged with SHEEP STEALING !! (ACQUITTED thank gauwdddd !!) The only Webb's that I knew were up here in Pontiac Michigan and were good solid God fearin' folks tho ! BEST to you & yours steve sspunk@aol.com
Can someone please tell me where the Cumberland Presbyterian church was located and where I may find information on the church members. Thank you, Jim
Did you say Webb. I am looking for some Webbs in Pope or Saline Co. Donna
Hi BWebb... I have seen your postings lately and noticed the last name of Webb and that you're from So. Ill. Am wondering if by any chance you are in some way related to Rev. George Webb (wife Florence) formerly from Mt.Vernon, now living in Arizona (pretty sure). ??? Paula Glover Tanner-Newton in Sunny Florida
Sorry, where's my brain. I said I had lived all my life in Hancock Co. True except for six years in Burlington, Iowa, working for a CPA firm there. Am sure no one will care, but I don't want to tell a lie. Robert ________________________________________________________________ YOU'RE PAYING TOO MUCH FOR THE INTERNET! I could be, but I don't know how. My ancestor was Eli Webb, an early pioneer of Franklin Co., Ill. His son, Lazarus, lived for awhile in Brown Co., Ill., and my great-grandfather, John Sandusky Webb, was either taken there or born there, and stayed in this area west central part of Illinois. My grandfather and father were both born in Fulton Co., Ill., and I was born in McDonough Co. (Macomb) but have lived all my life in Hancock Co., where my branch of Webbs has lived since 1926, when my grandfather came here to preach for four small churches. Robert, Just out of curiosity, after seeing some of the names that were mentioned from the church would you have any Gidcumb/Gidcomb's listed? Sure would appreciate a look see. Watch out for Steve, he's a tricky young fellow. He's stole some of my Bakers. Norm
Sorry, don't have any by this name. Also someone asked me about MItchem's or Mitchum's, and I don't have any of those either. I have a little of everything, even Hatfields and McCoys, but not this one. Robert On Fri, 10 Nov 2000 15:30:35 -0500 "Norman L. Thanks Pat this was more then I had. Do an of the other names ring any bells? mls
Steve, I thought you were pulling my leg, as there are so many Bakers, I would have to know which one you mean - I wouldn't have time to say much about all of them even if I knew what to say. I'll help you if you wish, just give me the names, or at least the church or county where your Bakers came from. Trev said an old map (1876) showed Plainview was a township in the very north east corner of Saline Co. Texas City post office was located there. My grandparents Canalas Meander and America Vienna (Williams) Scott lived in the Plainview area. Grandmother was born in Texas City. All the children were born in Eldorado. Uncle Charley Thomas Scott lived near Harrisburg a number of years. Still searching for where they are buried. Does anyone know the names of the cemeteries in Saline County and how to contact the people in charge? Please keep their names in mind when you search your roots, etc. Thanks! Well my BAKERS were Baptist, and they WERE primitive, so I guess, if ya see any mention of BAKERs let me know toooo !! steve sspunk@aol.com
Come on, Steve! :-) I'll tell you about the Bakers if you tell me about the Webbs! :-) On second thought, please don't, at least not in public. :-) Amused, Robert :-) P.S. - I asked for this. I want to help, and not totally selfish I hope in wanting to do so, but I have already been repaid for my efforts by people telling me about some of the early Saline County people that you folks know alot about that are only names in my database until you bring them to life for me. I really am not a genealogist in the family sense, but rather the church family sense. I'm sincerely interested in my "church family." Sorry Robert, I won't forgive you for this. In fact I'll thank you for it since I'm related to the Womacks too, though I'm not sure off hand if these are direct ancestors or collateral cousins. The church at Poplar Cemetery has been gone about 20 years. There were no services held there for many years before it was torn down. Dear Bob, I will copy for you the same reply I sent to Judy Brown privately about the Womacks that we have in our database. This is basically just a list of their names. If you have the year of their birth and death, I would be interested in that info for our database. Robert: I want to thank you for enlightening all of us whether we agree with the stands of the Primitive Baptist Church or not. We should all be open to learning about other religious groups and how they were formed and what they stood for. I am finding all of this very interesting and educational. Carol Krajnik
