    3. Teresa, I hope this is the information that you may need. In the 1870 Saline County Census, there is a Julia A. Boyd, age 18, living in Long Branch Township with a Susaner BOYLE , which may be a spelling error. There are two males in the same household, also with the BOYD surname. One is Hiram, age 14 and the other is William, age 12. In the Saline County Marriage Register B, there is a William Boyd, age 44 who married Cordelia Heard on June 3, 1900. He lists his parents as Berry BOYD and Elizabeth SMITH and states he was born in Franklin County, IL. In the 1850 Federal Census in Franklin County, there is a Berry T. BOYD, age 25, born in Kentucky. His wife is listed as Elizabeth, age 23, born in Illinois and there is one child, Angeline (?) age 1. I hope this is the same family that you need, if not I apologize for the error. Best wishes, Barbara James Young wrote: > Does anybody searching on Julia A. Boyd? 2. I have Nora Pankey in my database with 10 siblings. Also with a half-brother from a second marriage of her father. I have approximate years of birth for them. Probably from the census. I don't think I've checked for dates of death. Let me know if you're interested in the info. My husband was a Pankey descendant. 3. I found the probate papers, in my mother's belongings, of Nora Mattox. My mother inherited after the death of Nora (Pankey) Mattox on10th of July 1963 in Harrisburg, Saline County, Illinois. She was the widow of William T. Mattox. The probate papers name the heirs that would have been the descendants of her bothers and sisters. One of Nora's brothers was my great grandfather, Benjamin Franklin Pankey. I never knew about any brother and sisters. It lists Eliza J. (Pankey) Webb, Thomas J. Pankey. Alice (Pankey) Boatright and Carrie (Pankey) Moore as other siblings with descendants that also inherited. Does anyone know any thing about this family? Were there other siblings? Are their any descendants still living in the area? Does anyone know the birth/death date of any of the above people? Thanks. Karen Shields

    3. That was your share of the profit. Believe it or not, that passes down from gen. to gen.... ours passed down 4 that I know of (to my parents), until about 15 years ago... we had a family member that was a partner with a few others and leased out the rights to big corp (this was in franklin co)..... they got annual checks, and when they died it went to their heirs (it cuts drastically) and so forth... my mothers last check was a total of $14, the first generation received a few thousand. What was interesting was to see the annual statement (one of the last ones) and see the names of everyone (all partners, and their descendants).... it was several hundred people. Just another nice piece of paper trail to be looking for :-))) I know the next question is, where do you find it, and the answer is I don't know (I'm looking for more)<g> Best Regards, Trev ----- Original Message ----- From: <SSpunk@aol.com> To: <ILSALINE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, 15 November, 2000 9:15 PM Subject: [ILSALINE-L] Re: land > Appreciate it folks. Hello Ernie, Metes & Bounds is a description of a tract of land by starting at a given point, running so many feet a certain direction, so many feet another direction etc., back to the point of beginning. In most cases, the same tract of land may be described in different ways, this being just one..... another is in terms of degrees (combined with M's & B's), of which this mail could not illistrate properly.... The rectangular system of describing land (like the description I gave Steve) is the most simple and almost always used when possible (Pre 19th century land records are a little more complicated, and yet another form of description). Just from memory (I haven't looked at this in a some time), the Principle Meridian line runs north and south thru the state of IL at the west edge of the Franklin Co line, all Range numbers east of this of course will have an E(ast) (all ranges in Saline). I can't remember exactly where the Base line is, but I know that the townships on the north edge of Saline are T5, and those at the north edge of Hamilton Co are T3, and I believe it is Wayne Co just north of Hamilton, so the Base line shoud run east and west thru wayne (and the state of IL). So all the township descriptions in IL below this are for ex. T7S..... so this will be the same as your home in AZ... > For instance, in Arizona, where I live, the base is at Basline Road near > I-10 in Phoenix and everything in the state measures east-west, north-south > from there. > I remember in Saline County in the 1950s they used to have package liquor > stores in some strange locations. One I recall was out in the sticks between > Galatia and Thompsonville as I recall. I was told then that it was because > they were in a different township and that sometimes liquor was voted in by > township rather than by county and city. TN is the same way, it goes be township.... but till have a couple dry counties, where they don't let it get to the township level yet (let's have a recount on that vote, ha).... Best Regards, Trev
