Thanks Sam, Actually, I misspoke on the name I was interested in but it seems like Ledford was near Carrier Mills, just south of Harrisburg. Ernie Heltsley
There is a small community called Ledford near Harrisburg, but I am not familiar with a Ledbetter. Ken Haughton of Los Gatos California is now taking orders for his new book, "Ledbetters Revisited". I have an advanced copy in CD-ROM format. My John Ledbetter, b 1806, lived and died in Hardin Co, Illinois. Upon chekcing the listing in the new book "Ledbetters Revisited" for my John Ledbetter I found the father listed as James Ledbetter with mother unknown. The second marriage of this James was listed as a Mahaula and they moved to the are of Shelby Co, Illinois. It also lists a brother of John as Lewis. The book uses me as a reference. I had sent an e-mail message to Ken earlier asking that he not use this information; however, he lidted anyway. I did the research about 10 to 15 years ago, and have since found information that could have John's father as being a different James. In the 1818 Illinois Census, there are Henry, Asa, and James Ledbetter listed. In the 1820 Illinois census, there are Henry, Asa, and Sarah. I believe that Sarah could be the wife of James, and James died between 1818 and 1820 leaving Sarah a widow. In the 1820 census of Sarah it list 1 male child as being in the range of John. It also lists two female children in the fmaily. I have never identified these children. I know that the father of John is James, but I do not know which James is the father. There are more than one in the area. For a copy of Ken Haughton's book "Ledbetters Revisited" contact him at khaughton@juno.com. The price of the book is $40 which includes shipping. Hello, While the counting has stopped in Florida and we're all waiting for the Supreme Court tomorrow, I thought I would interrupt the ongoing televised commentary with a commercial. It's Christmastime you know and books make such great gifts. I've recently published "Egyptian Tales of Southern Illinois," an anthology of stories about the culture and history of Southern Illinois. The stories cover topics such as how the region got the name Egypt, to tales of the "ancient colony of horse-thieves, counterfeiters and robbers" that inhabited the hills and hollows along the Ohio River. And of course, it also includes some of the latest research wrap up on the Old Slave House. There's also stories on early schools, wildlife and John A. Logan's first command of sorts in the Civil War. For more information, prices, order information, etc. Check out... http://www.illinoishistory.com/EgyptianTales/ As the list owner for the Gallatin County list and county coordinator for the Saline, Gallatin and Hardin Co. ILGenWeb pages, I'll be adding information on this book as well as others available from other local authors, genealogy societies, etc. to those three pages. If you have a book for those three counties that is not presently on the sites (I'm getting ready to add more to the Hardin Co. page), let me know. Thank you for your time, and now back to the show.
