    3. The 18th Illinois Infantry Regiment was organized at Camp Butler, Ill., and mustered in November 1862. The regiment was attached to the District of Columbus, KY., 16th Army Corps, Department of Tennessee. It was disbanded April 1, 1863 by order of General Grant, having lost in five months over 700 men, principally by desertion, and the officers having proved themselves utterly incompetent, were mustered out of the service. The few remaining were consolidated with the 9th Illinois Infantry on April 1, 1863. I got this information from a reference: Saline County Illinois Soldiers of the Civil War by Don Boyd [1977]. It wasn't a bound book as I remember. I found it at the genealogical reference section of the Evansville, IN. library on a trip I made to Saline County a few years ago. I also got photocopies of from Ill Achieves of the mustering documents which had my relatives on it. Interesting is it gives a physical description of the person. My connection to Saline County is William Anderson/ Albert Alvis/William/Franklin/Lawrence Anderson [Lawrence moved to Nebraska around 1919]. Anderson farms in Tate Township is on the same location as it was in 1820. Would like to hear from anyone doing research on this family. Have a great Holiday. 3. I have been told that land in Arkansas was offered for sale by the federal government for as little as 25 cents an acre in the latter part of the 1800's. I know that several of my Clayton family went to Rector, Arkansas from Saline Co then moved back several years later.

    3. The move from IL to AR. was due to clearing of timber for fields and homes the logging was great along the rivers. So the farming would have been good also. There were lots of jobs in the late 1800 and early 1900's so people went to Ar. for work. 3. Dear Trev, Ooooh, doggy!!! Thank you so much for typing all this for me. Yep, I have Unicey A. Braden, Eliza Ellen Braden which is the daughter of James Braden and Unicey Smith. Didn't know though who they married to. I am trying to make connection to my SOUTHER, CARTER, BOYD, BRADEN and I see more clues than ever that my families is connected all together. Found one lady in Illinois who is pretty sure we are connected thru ours Souther's. Her Asahel Glen Durham, born 1853, married to Lydia Matilda Souther, born 1855. On my line, my great great grandmother, Julia A. Boyd, married to Andrew J. Souther, who is sister to Lydia Matilda Souther. (Trev, you were the one who find my Souther's in 1860 Saline County, Raleigh P.O., Andrew J. and Lydia M. Souther's parents). Thank Trev for letting me know more information, new clues. Merry Christmas, Trev.
