My great-grand-parents, Thomas McDonald(1859-1926) and Mary Aldredge(1858-1916) lived a good portion of their lives in Eldorado and died in Eldorado. Their bodies were sent from Martin Funeral Home for burial in Mt. Vernon, IN. Does this funeral home still exist, and if it does, would it be able to tell me what cemetery their bodies were sent to? Does anyone have an address for the funeral home? Any information would be greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance. Judy I am still hoping to find some information on the McGuinn's from this wonderful list serve.

Thanks, just wasn't sure it was just me. Thot I was gonna have ta get me eyeballs checked again !! For some added notes: I no longer consider Edmund Baker (1776) 's m2 to be Elizabeth RICE. I have DROPPED the RICE and I no longer consider her to be a RICE. (Unless someone can find it in writing of course). It came to me that the only reason she was considered to be a RICE was the fact that she was seemingly the only way that Edmund could have been buried in the RICE Cemetary. Since I have come to the reasoning that the RICE Cemetary was ORIGINALLY BAKER land, she was probably buried in the cemetary while it was STILL Baker land. IE at the time she died, it would really have been the BAKER Cemetary and not RICE. There were at least 3 other BAKER's buried there before her & the first buried there was a Baker. nuff said on that matter fer now ! lol. Another question keeps rising in my mind (ALSO a VERY SCARY THING !!) IF someone was born in NC in 1776, could they REALLY have been born in what was later TENNESSEE ? IF so then what was the state of birth usually considered to be ?? ie could my Edmund have been born in a part of NC that later became Tenn and then still stated he was born in NC/SC ? I've always had trouble with moving boundries !! thanks, steve sspunk@aol.com "My mind is so big, that when my boat sinks inside it, I drown"
there are some Carters buried in Wolfe Creek Cem. Eldorado, Ill.
So happy for you, Teresa!! Kathryne
Thank for sharing my joy with me. Yippee!!!! I have wish that 2001 New Year would be good to me, that ancestors will fall down on my lap. As least I know when he died. Here my great grandfather John Henry Carter had married to Mary Alice Souther in 1891 in Saline County, and it said his father was Douglas Carter and mother VANTREASE. It was his mother that was Sarah Caroline Vantrease Carter Kelly. Found the marriage record of Mrs. Sarah Carter married to Giles Kelly in 1877 in Saline County. Can you imagine me trying to find Douglas Carter, wonder what happen to him, did he died or did they divorced???? Then got to looking in genforum on Carter and Vantrease and lo and behold, there was his name and everything. Right now, I am talking to the lady who could be my long lost cousin. We are trying to figure out the puzzles to our families. It could be that her Ellie Carter is my great grandfather's sister. Hot diggety dog!!! Ain't this wonderful!! Just want to share my joy with my friends in Saline County on what happen. Thank everybody for alway been there for me. Geez, thank for letting me know. Got one response telling me that there is no Carter's buried in Raleigh. Wonder if anybody have cemetery index on Wolfe Creek Cemetery??? Thank for letting me know. I have just found out a new clue on my great great grandfather Douglas Carter. I was so excited when I found out about this and barely can contain myself. Found out that Douglas Carter was born 1846 in Macon County, Tennessee, married to Sarah Caroline Vantrease in Carterville, Illinois. He died in April 12, 1873 in Raleigh, Illinois. Now we got him. What I want to know is how many cemeteries are there in Raleigh? Is there any web site or url I can check for his burial place? Or does anybody have a cemetery book they can look up for me? Now I got to track down on who is his parents and siblings. Now I know now when Douglas Carter had died. Here I had been looking high and low places for him. So that was the most wonderful news for me. Hot diggety dog!!!!! Teresa from Oklahoma
Hi Saline Co. listers, I have updated the "Yesterdays of Hamilton Co., IL" today and have added an interesting article re. Charlie Birger and his gang that some of you may enjoy. The URL is: http://www.carolyar.com/Illinois/Govern/Birger.htm Carol
Steve, I agree...I have been getting the same jumbled message after the msn pasting. I did not realize what was causing the problem. Regina
Steve, I can't receive those on aol either, just a bunch of letters that make no sence. I just have mine sent to my local carrier. I would also be interested in any information on tracing Indian ancestry for family lines in southern IL. There are family stories about being part Cherokee and also of being part Blackfoot on more than one branch of my family tree. Regina
Can anyone tell me if more information exists for funerals from the Harrisburg Funeral Home than what is in the book by Bernard W. Moore for the time from 1907 until 1965? The information contained in this book seems very limited and seems to have been transcribed. Would someone be so kind as to do a lookup for me in the 1910 and 1920 census on McGuinn? I am looking for several, especially a Martin McGuinn who is my great-grandfather. Also in the 1920 census, they list a James J McGuinn (who is my grandfather) at East Eldorado Twp. City Ward 2. Are there any other McGuinns mentioned? Also looking for an Emma Rausch who is James McGuinn's sister. I know nothing except she had a son. Thank you in advance for any help you can give me. I have been at a brick wall on Martin McGuinn. I traced him to Indiana(Carbon and Brazil). He had children born there but I can't find him in any census. One birth was 1897. Thanks again! Judy Jordan
WOW, Trev!!!! You are alway there for me!!! And truly amazing guy!!! I have note that Sarah C. VANTREASE had married to Unknown KELLY. Supposely this is Giles Kelly. She married to him on August 5, 1877 in Saline County, Mrs. Sarah Carter to Giles Kelly. I have also found that Sarah C. Vantrease had married to Alfred Carter. Couldn't find the marriage record of Carter and Vantrease in Illinois. This Alfred Carter is what confuse me. In copy of marriage of Henry Carter and M. A. Souther, it stated that his father is Douglas Carter and mother "Vantrease". On "By whom consent to Marriage given", it is Sarah C. Kelly. So this Sarah C. Kelly is Sarah C. Vantrease Carter Kelly. Is Douglas Carter the same person as Alfred Carter? I am trying to find Douglas Carter. He must have died or something, for Mrs. Sarah Carter to be married to Giles Kelly. I hope somebody here is searching for this Carter of mine. This Carter is hard to track down for there is so many of them....white Carters, Indian Carters, Black Carters. But mine is white Carters. Again, thank you ever so much for your help on this VANTREASE'S family. Maybe one of these days, the puzzling and this mysteries to this family will be solved and I am slowly getting there and thank to all of you on Saline County List, you are the BEST OF ALL. Deanna; In the Illinois Statewide Marriage Index 1763 - 1900 There was a Susan Karnes Saline Co. married Thomas Simpson 11-2-1870 Albert Karnes married Viola Simpson Gallatin Co. 9-4-1890 ( I believe this couple had a daughter by the name of Callie showing as granddaughter of Anna Simpson (head of house) in the 1900 Cencus.) I'm looking for this Simpson family. Does this information help you? Hope so.
