    3. Norm I hope you are right that they were saved or given to the city or state. If you look at the book by Bernard Moore, they shorted the names and in some cases of the death's of wife's they listed as Mrs. Will Owen(s) (as an example) instead of her first name. Now I would have to think that an original record would have her first name and probably her parents name also. Roger also in Michigan ----- Original Message ----- From: Norman L. 3. Hello, Wonder if anyone can answer a question for me. Are there any funeral homes in Eldorado/Texas City that were around in 1882? If so any chance they might still have records from that long ago? If a funeral home goes out of business are they required to file their records somewhere or keep them for a certain amount of time? Thanks for any help! 2. Hal Ledbetter
    3. The military records for the Civil War are not State records, they are Federal records, so you can order from the Federal. The people served in the military for the Federal. It is possible that you might find some of the record in the state Archives. In order to get original Federal records, you must request from NARA listed below. They are the only ones that have complete records. You must also know the company in which he served and on which side, the Union or Confederate. I have found complete familys named in the pension records along with several marriages of both husband and wife and marriage dates and places. The childrens birthdays were also listed. This is the best possible. There are times that you might not find much. It is a gamble. As you can see, I am new at this and I have never order any civil war records. But I am confuse here. How come you have to order the form in Washington, DC in Archives and why not in Illinois Archives?? Can you still get the same thing in Illinois Archives? Will they have that? Especially if my gggreatgrandfather Douglas Carter was from Illinois and it was in Illinois when he sign up. Look like to me the civil war records and pension will be at Illinois Archives. Let me know your thoughts on this, okay. Thank you for alway been so helpful here. This is the best site to be on here in Saline's Lists. So much wisdom to share with other. 2. Theresa: The Civil War pensions for Union soldiers were paid by the Federal government. The microfilmed records are stored in Washington D.C. It usually takes from 6-8 weeks to receive the copies after ordering, but they're well worth it and may contain information you won't find anywhere else.
