    1. [ILSALINE-L] 1855 Illinois State Census Lookup
    2. Kevin Phillips
    3. Can anyone lookup the ANGLIN (ANGLING, ANGLEN) surname in the 1855 Illinois State Census? I'd like a complete rundown on this surname if possible. Of particular interest is Joseph Anglin b. 1802 VA d. 1856 and on the 1854 Shelby tax rolls and Zephaniah Anglin Jr. b. 1823 d. 1856 IL and on the 1854 and 1855 Shelby Tax rolls. I believe Joseph to be the father of Zephaniah and am wondering if they are in the same household in 1855. There are a number of Anglin brothers and the 1855 census may help tie them together. Thanks, Kevin

    2. Hello, I am looking for the daughter of John H. and Martha C. Gibbs Slack. She was born between 1870 and 1880. She would have been an orphan around 1885. The only other piece of information that I have is that she was once a postmistress in Saline County. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

If anyone has a map > and can scan it, would appreciate them sending it to my email > fhogue@sheltonbbs.com. > Thank you, Faith There have been several good answers to Faith's question regarding map availability; but, I haven't seen the township of 'Rector' mentioned. I have the '1908 Standard Atlas of Saline Co. Plat Book' which I recently purchased from the Saline County Genealogical Society for $15 plus S/H. (see http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilsaline/books.htm ). The map shows Rector township in the northeast corner of the county. This map shows the names of the townships, but does not clearly show their boundaries (it is in black and white). I can only infer that Rector township corresponds to the one called 'Plainview' on the 1875 map: http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/maps/illinois/il1875/SALINE.JPG This 1875 map is the same one that is displayed at the top of the Saline County GenWeb page: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilsaline/ . On this map, Plainview Township consists of the 18 sections of township 7 south, range 7 east which fall in Saline County (sections 19-36). There are no towns shown in Plainview Township on this map; however, the 1908 map shows the following to fall in these same sections: Francis Mills P.O. and Texas City. Interestingly, the town of Rectorville is shown on the 1875 map of Hamilton county http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/maps/illinois/il1875/HAMILITO.JPG in Mayberry Township. Hope this helps Faith. 3. Betty and all, These plat books have proved to be invaluable to me. The roads and highways are very clearly marked and they provide an excellent resource for people (such as my husband and I ) that aren't familiar with the area. I take mine every time we visit because we always try to go to an new cemetery/church that we haven't before. These maps also show the names of the current property owners, so you might see some familiar surnames there!!
