The Saline County Genealogy library is located in the Harrisbury city hall. It is located on the ground floor, East entrance. The library does not have a phone, but you can call the city clerk for directions if needed. -----Original Message----- From: PMitch2907@aol.com <PMitch2907@aol.com> To: ILSALINE-L@rootsweb.com <ILSALINE-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Tuesday, April 10, 2001 5:10 PM Subject: Re: [ILSALINE-L] COONS, Isaac/RICE, Mary E. Sharlene: I understand there is a Historical Society across the street from the Court House. That should be a good place to start. There are many cemeteries in Saline County and I imagine they could locate them for you. In the County Clerk's Office, ask for Stephanie as she is really a great help. Good luck. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Sharlene Meyer" <sharmeye@usmo.com> To: <ILSALINE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, April 10, 2001 4:52 PM Subject: [ILSALINE-L] COONS, Isaac/RICE, Mary E. Hi Everyone I posted a similar request a couple weeks ago and didn't receive any replies, so I'm trying again. I am planning a trip on Thursday to Saline County in search of information pertaining to the COONS- RICE families. Isaac COONS and Mary E. RICE were married in 1872 in Saline County. I am seeking all information available on this couple. Plus, of course, tons of other COONS family ancestors. The COONS family has proven to be somewhat elusive. Also searching for Martin COONS, Jr. - Saline County abt. 1850 My questions are: Where would you all start besides the Courthouse? Is there a library with a genealogy section? Do they have a Historical Society? Where are the cemeteries located in Saline County? Any information anyone can give me will be put to good use on Thursday. Thank you all so much, Sharlene Coontz Meyer

Thanks, Johnny Bond Any idea on this Thomas's birth year? In the Hamilton Co 1870 census is a 6 month old Thomas L. Casky living with his parents in Rectorville Twp (now Broughton Twp. area) which was only a couple miles north of the Saline Co line.... if this is him he may possibly be buried there?? Does anyone have any information on a Preston ("Press") and Ruth Johnson who lived in Galatia, Illinois in the 1950's. Ruth Johnson moved to an apartment in Galatia in the late 1960's early 1970's after Preston passed away. Thanks. Thanks so much to all of you who responded to my information on the Pemberton family! I am very new at geneology research, so my information is not yet appropriately documented. I will be glad to share the info I do have. I was away most of the weekend, but will get back to you all tonight or early in the week. Special thanks to PJ Smith and Sharron Reddin. I'm glad to have found you! PJ..Do you have much info on the Smith family ? I have come to a dead end with Dr. Charles A. Smith. He died in Saline Co but was born in Tennessee. The weather in Oregon is somewhat overcast today but some sun... about 57 degrees out. Our winterr has been dry this year and everyone is concerned with possible loss of electricity as happened in California. The State buildings have reduced their heat from 72 to 67 degrees and lights are turned out at 5:30. (I work for the State). Best wishes to all, Mary
Mary, We are related...I have quite a lot on this family. George N. Pemberton md. Celia/Celah Patterson in Wilson Co. TN. I have list of children and I have George and Celia's parents and in Celia's case her grandparents. I am leaving for a short while today, will return around 5:00 PM and will send you more information. Happy to have found you. I don't have the address because I live in Oregon, but I believe my grandmother, Polly Pemberton (Smith) , may be related. Her father was John I. Pemberton born 02/02/1829 in Tennessee and died 10/19/88 in Saline Co. John's father was George Pemberton born about 1802 in Virginia and died March 3, 1871. His mother was Celia (no maiden name). Polly married Clarence Smith. His father was Dr. Charles A. Smith born in Tennessee and died in Saline County in October, 1881. Is this the same George Pemberton? ----- Original Message ----- From: "Sharron Redden" <redden@thegrid.net> To: <ILSALINE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, March 30, 2001 4:20 PM Subject: [ILSALINE-L] Courthouse Address > I am in need of the address of the Saline Co. To the person working on YATES: Just wanted to make sure you knew that West Frankfort is in Franklin County (not Saline County). Also, fyi, there were some YATES in Herrin, IL (Williamson County). The counties in So. IL are rather small and our folks (and their extended families) are often found in multiple counties. So good luck in your search. To anyone out there not familiar with the great State of Illinois: Folks researching are sooooo fortunate to have an excellent on-line web site provided by the State. If you are researching Illinois and have not become intimately familiar with the following web site, you are missing out on a lot: http://www.cyberdriveillinois.com/departments/archives/archives.html To the person working on PEMBERTON: As a child, I attended Washington Grade School in Johnston City, IL (Williamson County). Across from that school, we had a little "mom and pop" grocery store where many of us went to purchase sack lunches, etc. If memory serves, that store was run by a PEMBERTON family.
