I am from this line. Rebecca Dorris b. 1808 Sumner Co., Tn. did marry Green Berry Bush b. 1807 Tn. I cannot prove this marriage date either, although it is the one I have. Supposedly Rebecca is the d/o of Elijah and Mary Jane "Polly" Hough Dorris. Other children were: Elizabeth, Eleanor, Mary, Andrew Jackson, Henry, Nancy and William all born between 1808 and 1827. Does anyone have any more info on Mary Jane "Polly" Hough Dorris? Leanna, you might write to the Illinois Genealogical Society and/or the Illinois Historical Society. You can call your post office for zip & address. There is also the Hillegas Chapter of the DAR in Harrisburg. I corresponded with the society president many years ago about my family. She invited me to her home while I was in Harrisburg and answered questions for me--even put me in contact with a local lady who was also a descendant. Very nice people. ----- Original Message ----- From: "holdgraf" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, July 14, 2003 3:44 PM Subject: Re: [ILSALINE-L] Southern IL 1810 Census > Just a note to vent some frustration. Hi Leanna, You aren't alone. I drove up from Memphis to look at Harrisburg newspapers at the Harrisburg Public library. Evidently they do not have a policy on how long someone may use the microfilm reader/copier. We waited for over 2 hours only to find out that the man using the machine would be occupying it for at least 45 more min. We gave up and left. Leanna, The only surefire way would be to look the name up in Glen Minor's cemetery books. There are major gaps concerning the Shawneetown newspapers being microfilmed. There's also a number of wills and probates that were taken out of the courthouse around the time of the 1937 flood. A link to the cemetery books can be found on the Gallatin County ILGenWeb site at www.rootsweb.com/~ilgalla2/cemeteries.html. Also, if he was Catholic you may want to check with the local churches. Their parish records are probably more complete than the county's. Sincerely, Jon Musgrave www.IllinoisHistory.com

I have information for Rebecca Bush married to Barry/Berry Bush. I have located them on the 1850, 1860 and 1870 Saline Co. Census. This Rebecca Bush 's maiden name was Dorris. I also show they were married 8 Sept 1828 in Sumner Co. Tenn. however can't prove it. I also show that Berry Bush was in the Civil War in 1861. I hope this can help you. Sue

I don't know much about Martha Ann Ledford. She was born Mar1830 and died 28 April 1908 in Junction City, Geary Co. KS. She married Capt. William Roark 27 Mar 1861 (her 3rd, his 2nd). Martha's 1st marriage was to Benjamin Allen and they had at least one son, John Benjamin. Her 2nd marriage was to a Thomas Risinger. A probate record-- "Martha A. Roark vs William Roark, Box #4, File #63. Cause of separation: loss of affection between them. Case filed Nov 1874. Case disposed of May 1875. Date & place of marriage 27 Mar 1861 Saline Co IL. Children from this marriage: William S. Roark, Michael E. Roark, Charley A. Roark. William S being 12 years old on 26 Feb 1874. She claims that he suggested permanent separation because of a loss of affection between them; he wanting all the children removed from her custody; that he wants to have her banish her son by a previous marriage, John Benjamin Allen; that this child is the reason for his dissatisfaction at home; that William has left her for a room of hiw own. "He states in his cross bill that the cause of their misunder- standings is in the undutiful and disrespectable conduct of John Benjamin Allen, the son of Martha by a former husband; that J. B. Alle is a bad influence on their three small children and shouldn't be allowed their company; that J. B. Allen has married but lives only one mile from their home and continues to upset the family; that William Roark Sr. has sent his eldest son, William S. Roark, to Shawneetown to live with his (senior's) sister and go to school Nov. Term 1874. Injunction asked to be dropped because the witnesses, Samuel Bellah and Sarah, his wife, were not present; that they are the daughter and son-in-law to which William S. Roark was sent in Shawneetown." (Sarah was Capt. William's sister.) Martha applied for Capt. William's military pension in 1903. I don't have anything on her family--sorry. ----- Original Message ----- From: "LR Miller" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, July 13, 2003 12:03 PM Subject: [ILSALINE-L] Roark - Ledford > Karen, > > Do you have any specific information about Martha Ann Ledford?
