Hi Saline Co Listers, I would appreciate help on the following that has me stumped: in the Saline Co, IL 1870 Census besides Harrisburg, the other designated areas in the Census I have (which I don't have an index to) are listed as Townships 7,8,9, & 10. Does anyone know which one or part of one is Stonefort Twp?? I am looking for the James W. Groce family who hopefully lived in Stonefort Twp in 1870. Thanks. Georgianna Mitchell
can you please tell me how you found that?? On line or in a book?? Just tried to enter both names and find any link on Ancestry.com but came up empty?? Could anyone tell me if there is a book of Providence Cemt., Saline Co., IL. that can be purchased? Thank you Linda
Stonefort was the southern half of Township 10 south and Range 5 east. Or is you looked at Saline county the very southwest corner. I show no "Groce" listed in the Saline 1870 index. In my census book Stonefort pages 167 thru 179. I believe the book will encompass all of Saline County. I only found out about it at Gaskins because I was there to see the old pictures and the man told me someone had been in to scan them for the book. It should be pure gold for those of us who call Saline County our birthplace! Oh my...that would have driven me nuts! Wonder if the guy was from out of town? If not I would have been double frustrated. Seems like the Daily Register has a reader but not ability to print. I think I'm going to look for a hand scanner to take with me to the DR next visit. When I was ther( library ) they were re arranging the microfilm reader....put it in the genealogy room. I heard them mention a grant they were hoping to receive. I'd be happy to contribute to a fund to help them out. Thank you for the reply....both Alberts are in my line. The first Albert Lancaster is the one I'm working on right now....I have his death certificate but it lists parents as unknown. His newspaper obit says his parents died when he was young and he was raised by his Aunt, Mrs Minnie Smith in Shawnee town. It also states that he had a half brother names Charles Yarber in Dorrisville. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Kent & Tracy" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, July 14, 2003 4:02 PM Subject: Re: [ILSALINE-L] Albert Lancaster > Long distance research is hard.
