Kate, I also have a number of ancestors who were members of this church. From the info that I have found, the members who organized this church were once members of the Primitive ( also called Regular) Baptist Church. In several areas, former members of the Primitive Baptist Church, for one reason or another, formed their own church that followed that of the Missionary Baptist. Before 1840, these former members of Bethel Creek Primitive Baptist Church organized Union Baptist Church. The first church was located about 2 miles west of Raleigh. When Raleigh was named as the county seat of Saline County, the members moved the church location to Raleigh and changed the name to Raleigh Missionary Church. They built a log cabin on the same location as the present Baptist Church. A new church was built on this location in 1930. It is located within the city limits of Raleigh. I hope this helps you. CT. readers...Il readers have come up with this summation...I know CT has a "right to know law." Can anyone sum it up? [email protected] in Ford County, Il. IL readers: To my dismay, after reading SO MUCH LEGAL junk, Dan has probably solved the problem. I will quote what he seems to have quoted..... "If you're into legalese, you can view or download a guide to the Illinois Freedom of Information Act put out by the Attorney General at this link: http://www.ag.state.il.us/foia/foiarevised.pdf The following quotation appears on every page of Vital Records information on the clerk's website, along with a description of who the "specific individuals" are: "Under Illinois State Law (410 ILCS 535-Vital Records Act) only specific individuals have legal access to birth, death, or marriage certificates. .......County Clerk's Office will issure certificates to authorized individuals only. To do otherwise is a violation of Illinois Law. Vital Records are not considered Public information, nor are the subject to the Freedom of Information Act." Guess we are out-of-luck.
Just to let everyone know who has an inquiry--I haven't heard from St. Louis City yet, but be patient. They have a gazillion books there and I don't know how well they are indexed.
My Mother graduated from Harrisburg High School in 1925.....JoAnn Lancaster. Maybe they knew one another? We were just in Harrisburg week end b/4 last ....I had a little reception for her at the White Lace Inn. Only 7 classmates came...I contacted only the ones who were still living in Harrisburg. It was great fun! Mary Ann, Go to www.e-bay.com; click on Browse; type in "Saline County" (use quotation marks); click on Titles and Descriptions; click on Search and then scroll down to items of interest. Do the same for "Gallatin County." However, you must register before you can bid on an item. Click on Register and follow the directions. It's free, and there's a tutorial which I recommend. Good luck. Carl
If we apply for and get a Harrisburg library do you suppose we could then get access to Heritage Quest from our cpmputers? Carl - I am not at all familiar on how to find ANYTHING on ebay. Could you please explain how I find the items? Thanks - Mary Ann <[email protected]>
It appears that they were scholastic societies which engaged in a variety of contests, i.e. spelling, oration, reading etc. Carl
Thanks to whomever alerted me to a 1926 Harrisburg High School yearbook on E-Bay. I purchased it and found my mother's (Mary Glass GASKINS) senior picture, one that I did not have. I have a question. The students are divided into Lowellians and Emersonians. Were there two high schools in Harrisburg which merged? If so, when did they merge? Do records exist for the former schools?
Some of you may be interested in a letter and deeds from the 1800s which are for sale on e-bay. The names I could make out are Wiley Elder, (Samuel?) Elder and (D.L.?) Grable. There is also a deed from Gallatin with Wiley Elder's name on it. Check e-bay under "Saline County" and "Gallatin County" if you're interested. Carl

I am searching for information on the THOMAS PARSONS/ELIZA JANE HENSHAW families. When Eliza Jane Henshaw Parsons mother, Jane Campbell Henshaw died, she gave a portrait of her husband HUGH HENSHAW to her daughter Elias. I would like to know if this portrait is still in existence. If there is anyone searching this family and would know where this portrait would be, please contact me. Thank you Linda Holmes White www.geocities.com/dolluvers
You can find all the Saline Co Books to purchase, along with address & price right here at their website... http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilsaline/books.htm Best Regards, Trev
Sam, I'm sure it was in error that we got in at all. These are normally set up to get into from either the library's PC's (by going to the library), or by using you home PC and using your PIN number from your library card to access your local library's mainframe, and then going into Heritage through them that way. We were doing it that way but we are not residents of Harrisburg and do not get (not suppooose to) their goodies (just like in your own home town:-)) Best Regards, Trev ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, July 17, 2003 6:24 PM Subject: Re: [ILSALINE-L] Heritage Quest Question > Has anyone gotten any information as to why we lost access to Heritage Quest > through the Harrisburg Library?
