    1. [ILSALINE-L] Obit for Fred HAWKINS
    2. Fred HAWKINS was from Saline County, IL. He moved to Pontiac, MI about 1930, He owned a grocery store in Pontiac, Michigan in the 1930s. He lost it when he extended credit to his customers who were out of work due to the depression and they were unable to repay him the money he had lent them. He them worked as a tool and die maker for a few years before W.W.II. He was told by his doctor that his health would be improved if he would move to a drier climate. He moved to New Mexico in the 1940s where he died, Jan. 19, 1947. Fred Hawkins had to have a lung removed because of lung cancer. The date you have for his death is correct. Ellen (JONES, HAWKINS?) took his body from Belen (NM) to his home in Harrisburg to be buried. He must have been born there also. Would like an obit. Any help appreciated. Fred was at one time m. to Virginia O. LeMonde of Harrisburg, Ruth Maxwell and maybe Ellen Jones. Ruth and Ellen might have been from Pontiac, Michigan. Thanks in adv. Bud in the Land of Lincoln

    2. They could also mean Oakland Township along with Oakland County. If this was during the 30's the odds are it was in Pontiac tho. The names, however bring back memories. There was a Hawkins Equipment Company on Orchard Lake road for years. Their daughters name was "Ginny". hummmm. Wouldn't have fit yours tho. She was bc 1951. Unless she was change of life and ............. Another name for the files of Lost Saliner's. Imagine what would have happened if everyone had STAYED down there and never left ............. 3. Yes.... If you live in Harrisburg. I'm thinking that you can only get a public library card for your townships library, only if you live in that township. It's possible that you may get on thow if you just reside in Saline county. If you don't live there, go down to your own local library and see if they got the federal grant to pay for Heritage like Harrisburg library did. If they haven't, ask them to apply for it. 3. Hi Steve, I found the following BAKER names listed as members of Union Baptist Church, along with the dates they were baptized: Ann - 8/1/1881, Elijah - 3/1844, Elizabeth - 12/1843, Elizabeth M. - 3/1844, James - 1/1844, Lucinda - 12/1843, Patsy- 11/1862, Phebe - 9/1866, Ruben - 8/1866, and William T. - 10/1866. Please note, for the women, this could be their married name. Also, I did not see any RISTER names on the membership list. For more Primitive Baptist Church info, you might check their link at: www.carthage.lib.il.us/community/churches/primbap/pbl.html Elder Robert Webb has an extensive research link here and has an abundance of info regarding the church, its history, members, etc. Best wishes in your research, Barbara Crain ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, July 26, 2003 11:40 PM Subject: [ILSALINE-L] RePrim Baptist > Were any of the Baker's listed in that church ? 3. Hello- In the last two issues of The Shawnee published by the Saline County Genealogical Society there has been a list of members of the Union (Raleigh) Baptist Church submitted by the late Averil Mathis. Does anyone have any other history on this Church? Exact location? Is it still there? Several of my Upchurch/Bramlet/Stricklin/Rabourn, etc. relatives appear on this roster and I would love to have more info. Thanks!
