McNamara DWIGHT - The Funeral Of Paul E. McNamara, 72, of Dwight, a former village president, will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick's Church, Dwight. The Rev. James Rickey and the Rev. Frances Ryan will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Von Qualen-Harris Funeral Home, Dwight, where a wake service will be at 8 p.m. Mr. McNamara died at 4:30 p.m. Sunday (March 5, 1995) at Saint Francis Medical Center, Peoria, following a short illness. He was born Aug. 30, 1922, at Buckingham, a son of Thomas E. and Gladys Olson McNamara. He married Theresa Dzuryo June 18, 1949, at Streator. She survives. Also surviving are one son, Kevin, Dwight; three daughters, Paula Benjelloun, Dwight; Mary Jayne LaBahn, LaGrange; and Cathy Ferguson, Cabery; three brothers, Richard, Oceanside, Calif.; Jerome, St. Louis; and John, Waukesha, Wis.; and three sisters, Eileen McNamara and Jane McNamara, both of Oakbrook; and Joanne Smith, Glenview; and five grandchildren. Mr. McNamara was a 1940 graduate of Dwight High School. He was elected village trustee of Dwight in 1961 and served until 1973. In 1977 he was elected village president. Mr. McNamara also was a Democratic precinct committeeman from 1964 to 1994; treasurer of Livingston County Democrats for 10 years; and election judge for the Livingston County clerk's office. Serving in the Marine Corps during World War II, he was in the first wave of the invasion force that landed on Iwo Jima on Feb. 19, 1945, and saw action in other Pacific campaigns, including Guadalcanal. He was owner and operator of McNamara Oil Co. until his retirement. At the time of this death, he worked at the Dwight Auto-Truck Plaza and was the plaza's 1994 employee of the year. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2608, American Legion Post 486 and Teamsters Union Local 179, all of Dwight. He was a charter member of the Dwight Ambulance Service. A member of St. Patrick's Church, he was a past member of its parish council and had been vice chairman of the new church.
