    1. [ILROOTS] Who would you invite to your Thanksgiving Dinner?
    2. Virginia Patricelli
    3. I would invite Ida Mae Jeffery to Thanksgiving Dinner and find out where she lived after she was born in Bellville, IL. She disappeared and showed up 20 years later in Butte, MT. Was she adopted when her mother died? Or did her father, Francis Jeffery, farm her out to some friends. Those of us in the USA will soon be celebrating Thanksgiving. If you could have one of your ancestors from Illinois join you for Thanksgiving dinner, which ancestor would you invite? What questions would you ask him or her? Please send a post to the list telling us about your ancestor - and please remember to include dates and locations. 1. Re: [ILROOTS] Who would you invite to your Thanksgiving Dinner?
    2. John M. Scroggins
    3. Mary (Polly) Tatum Scroggins Thurston, my 3rd great grandmother. Probably born in GA or TN about 1803. Married Prior Scroggins in Madison County, IL, 19 Jun 1820. After he died (1833), married Gardner Thurston in Macoupin County, IL, 19 or 20 Mar 1836. Apparently moved to Kansas with a married daughter and widowed son in the late 1850s or early 1860, and returned with the son (who was married in MO along along the way back) to Illinois in late 1860. Date and place of death unknown. Apparently never enumerated by name in any federal census. I have a long list of questions, including: When and where were you born? Who were your parents? Exactly how many children did you have with Prior Scroggins? Names? Dates of birth? Where were you living before Prior died. Exactly when and where did Prior die? Where is he buried? What do you know about Prior's parents and siblings? When did Prior and family members come to Illinois from Tennessee? Family tradition says they came at different times, that Prior was first and some of the others may have moved within Tennessee before migrating. Can you elaborate? Who were the young males living with you and Gardner Thurston in 1840? Was your son Jackson, who was killed in the Mexican War, married? If so, what happened to his wife? Did she move to St. Louis before 1850? How come you and your son Anderson are not listed in the 1850 or 1860 federal censuses (and William not in 1850)? Did Anderson have one or two children? Julian survived until 1933, two sources say there was a second son, Luther, but he seems to be unknown to the family. If there was a second son, did he make the trip to Kansas or die earlier? Julian ran away from his stepmother when he was about 8 and after Anderson went off to the Civil War. He ended up living with your sister-in-law, Minerva Sawyer. Why didn't you or his mother's family take him in? And when and where did you die and where are you buried?
