He had been in ill health some time but had not been bedfast and was able to be up and around most of the time. The body was received by the Cox funeral home where it was in state until noon today (Thursday) when it was removed to the General Baptist church in Shawneetown where funeral services were to be held at 3:00 p.m. with Rev. Earl Vaughn of Harrisburg officiating. Burial is to be in McGehee cemetery near Junction. The deceased was born near Ridgway, the son of the late William and Mary Cox on February 28, 1890. He spent his entire lifetime in Gallatin county where he engaged in farm work while able. In 1928 he was united in marriage to Betty Mae Edwards Parks at Carmi, who with nine children survives. They are Mrs. Laura Ridley of Lincoln, Mrs. Madeline Taylor of Morganfield, Ky., Mrs. Lottie Belle Williams, Robert Cox and Otis Cox Jr., all of Chicago, Mrs. Margaret Travelstead of New Haven, Pvt. Thomas Cox with the U.S. Army at Camp Polk, La., and Mrs. Elma Watson and Mrs. Mary Pearl Craig, both of Shawneetown. Two sons, Joe and Raymond preceded their father in death. Also surviving are two brothers, Bill Cox of Chester and Elmer of East St. Louis and a sister Mrs. Rosie McGrew of Carmi.
