    1. Death Certificate Errors?
    2. How likely is it that a date of death might be wrong on a death certificate? My ancestor, Nicholas S. Bastion, lived in Sullivan, Moultrie Co, SE of Springfield. But he died in Fowler, Adams Co, on the Mississippii above St. Louis. I have the family Bible, in which his wife wrote the date of his death as Feb 23, 1884. An obit dated Feb 28, from Shelby Co, next to Moultrie Co., where he had previously lived, also gave Feb 23. A biography by the Methodist church and an obit by the Disciples of Christ church (he had been a minister in each) also gave the Feb 23 date. However, his death certificate gives the date of death as Feb 24, 1884. It was not filled out until after his burial in Sullivan, because it notes that he was buried there Feb. 27. Granted that some of the four sources with the Feb 23 date may be dependent on each other, all are contemporary. So what am I to make of the fact that they all contradict the death certificate date? Has anybody run into cases from this era where the death certificate has the date of death wrong? Thanks, Doris Waggoner Seattle
