This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Long, Morris, Spradling, Hayes, Cleveland, Rodney, Rickard Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/Fh.2ADI/5828 Message Board Post: I am looking for the parents of Edward Long. The 1850 Hopkins county Texas census shows that he was born in Alabama @ 1810 and that he married an Alcy S. b:1814 from TN.and that their children were born in TN. The oral history of the family says the family moved to Texas from KY, so they may have lived there before settling in Texas about 1848, I think. I have searched Alabama, KY,MS,MO,NC and TN census records, looking for the family prior to 1850, with no luck. This makes me think that Edward, may not have been his first name or that he has been hiding, or just missed. Below, I have pasted the census information for the family starting in 1850 and going through 1880. I descend through the Robert Long b:1854 branch. When it is impossible to determine HEAD of HOUSEHOLD, these households will be listed after the preceding household. Many related families lived next door or close by. Perhaps this will help a bit. Enumerators sometimes failed to list parents' birth states for some children. Most times the parents listed were the parents, but there were many with second or so spouse. Then came time for the soundex people to record their info over most of the given names of the head of household and sometimes, the spouse. There are many voids indicated by.... or simply left blank. This alphabetical transcription lists head of household plus the family and other occupants. In some households, with many boarders and roomers, these may just be listed alphabetically. Listed next is relationship of person to the head of household followed by the age and birth states (including parents), when known. Line and page number is then given.
