Joan, In my 1880 Census : Instructions to Enumerators (which you can see at _http://www.ipums.org/usa/voliii/tEnumInstr.html_ (http://www.ipums.org/usa/voliii/tEnumInstr.html) ) there is no reference to "lives complete". This is a shame because I've seen enumerators continually put in terms that would of course be clear to them - but no one else has a clue what it means. Genealogyangel
