    3. The 1855 and 1865 IL state census are indexed at the Illinois State Archives. The index is NOT online. The archives will search it and the Family History Library may have it. These indexes are head of household only. Counties in Illinois did not conduct their own censuses. They may have duplicate copies of some censuses, but none that they performed themselves.
