Dear Frances...and others interested in orphanages in early Illinois, Yes, there were some orphanages existing in 1850-60. Here's how to find them. Go to Google, or some other search engine that is a favorite of yours. Ask it to find something like: Orphanage Illinois 1850 Google said it found 6,630 entries that matched that request...of course some of them won't be what you want, and I doubt that you can find the time to read that many, but you should be able to find something that will be helpful to your needs. Remember that changing the question will change the answers, so if you need to see more possibilities try reshuffling the words: Illinois 1850 Orphanage or adding the county you wish to find: Kendall Illinois orphanages or changing the question a lot: orphan homes Illinois 1855 just be creative. It might also prove useful to know that Illinois received quite a number of orphan train children. You can learn more about them in the same way.
