I have a family of Norwegians who came here in 1850 and 1852. Three came in 1850, Johannes Johnson 22, Margaret 20 ( later married Andrew Anderson) and Anna 18 (later married Lars Pearson). I found John Johnson in 1860 in Prebles Twp, Fillmore County, MN, Margaret in 1870, married to Andrew Anderson, in Pilot Township, Kankakee County, and Anna, married to Lars Pearson in 1860 in Thornton Twp, Cook County. A sister, Alice Johnson, was living with them at the time. She too lived in Kankakee County and married Albert S. Olson. I'd like to find Margaret Anderson (as she had a 14 year old boy in 1870) in 1860, so I could see her older children that are mentioned in the 1900 census when she is living with her son, George C. In the second group arriving in 1852 were the parents Hans and Trine (Trina, Thrine, etc.) Johnson. They were born 1804 and 1806, respectively. With them were sons Jon, born 1835, Hans, born 1840, Gjert (George) born 1843, Johannes, born 1845, Hans born 1852. In 1870, Hans and Trine were in Genesee, Kandiyohi Cty, MN with their 15 year old daughter, Hannah, born in Illinois in 1855. I'd like to find them in 1860 in Illinois or MN I'd guess, so I might be able to see what happened to Johannes, born 1845 and Hans born 1852. Without the 1860 census info, I am at a loss. I thought perhaps they were living with Margaret Anderson who was in an established household by 1860, but I can't find her either in 1860. The other two girls Trine and Alice, I've been able to locate Trine as Mrs. John D. Johnson in Iowa and Alice Olson in Kankakee and later Onarga. Dumb luck led me to Alice and a quit claim deed to Trine. My only research tool is Heritage Quest which searches for head of household only. That's what makes me think Hans and Trine may have been living with someone else. If anyone has access to a better index and would be willing to help, I'd really appreciate it. My first breakthrough with this family was last March and I'd sure like to wrap them up by this March. Joan in Illinois
