I write to you below an article press of 1990 to help me in research. Idaho Press-Tribune, Sunday, October 21, 1990 - 10A Obituaries, Violette RICE, Violette G. RICE, 93, of Nampa, died Thursday, Oct. 18, 1990, at a Nampa care center. Local arrangements were under the direction of Persons-Flahiff Funeral Chapel, Nampa. Private family inurnment will be in the Santa Barbara Cemetery, Santa Barbara, Calif. She was born May 19, 1897 in Paris, France, a daughter of Alfred and Martha MESTRAUD. She was raised and educated in France and England and came to the United States in 1914, settling near Chicago. She worked as a milliner at House of Lucille, owned by Lady Duff Gordon, before her marriage to Alexander C. RICE in may of 1920. They made their home in Chicago where she opened an art studio. She worked in oils and pastels and did portraits and stll life. She studied under Wellington J. Reynolds and at the Palette and Chisel Clud. She later became president of the Chicago No-Jury Society of Artists, the largest art society in Chicago. She had several of the works written up in the Chicago Daily News. She remained president of the No-Jury Society for several years before moving to Highland Park, Ill. They then moved to California and settled in Beverly Hills, where Mr. RICE died March 29, 1959. She later lived in Santa Monica, Westwood and Santa Ana, before moving to Nampa in 198! 4. She is survived by her two children, Jackie Stuart of Nampa and Alex Rice of Orange, Calif. eight grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brother, Paul, her sister, Poppy and one great-grandson. Memorials may be made to the Hospice Service of Mercy Medical Center, Nampa.
